Tri Star Questions

My question is about the older model tristar. Ive heard you can switch the beater bar wiht a eureka, which is definatly more agressive on the rug, exactly what I need to. Ive got really thick carpet and I need the agitation.
Has anyone compared the Tri Star wiht Filter Queen, which I do have one of, Great machine but doent agiate the carpet very well.

The older tristar (Compact style) use eureka power nozzles. Their ones were modified to be a little different and better.

In my opinion, the tristar PN is one of the best. Add a VGIII brush roll in it and it would be very hard to beat.


The old compact PNs have the standard eureka wooden brush roll with red beater strips.

Compared to a Filter queen, The tristar definitely has more powerful, and is a more simple machine.

Both machines are very quiet.


The tristar power nozzles will out-clean a filter queen power nozzle. Filter queens brush rolls aren't the best.

If you want to switch a TriStar to be able to use a Eureka Powernozzle, there's a special fitting you need .. the Compact and TriStar wands have buttons on them to lock them together... while they look very similar to Eureka/fit-all wands, they are slightly different... different enough that Eureka tools and wands, etc... won't lock on to Compact/TriStar hoses/wands.

Where in Wisconsin are you? I was born and raised in Glendale - northern Milwaukee suburb... There is a decent concentration of collectors in the Greater Milwaukee area, too. Tania, one of those collectors, may be able to help you find that special fitting, should you require one.

As Fred noted, if you want to use a Eureka Sweep n Groom nozzle with a VGIII, you'll need an adapter. However, that brush roll WILL NOT fit in other Eureka nozzles (nor in Tristar nozzles). It is a different set up. However, you can use Eureka VGI and VGII brush rolls in your Tristar nozzle. The other thing you can do is drill another hole in a Eureka wand that's above the hole already there so that it will fit onto a Tristar hose. The lock button a Tristar hose is in a higher position. I have a Eureka want like that and it's easy to do. The modified wand is on top and it allows me to use my Eureka Sweep n Groom nozzle.

BTW, Filter Queen vacuums are quite good as well. Their strong point is filtration (as implied in the name! LOL!). I took the motor unit on mine apart one time and it was clean as a whistle. If there was any dust on it, I couldn't see it. I think the one weak point on Filter Queens is the power nozzle. However, I discovered that you can take the suction coupler off the end of the hose and that will allow you to use it on a Eureka set up by creating a friction fit. I can't remember but I may have needed to wedge a small piece of card board into the wand to create a tight fit. But a Eureka nozzle will turn a very good Filter Queen into a superior Filter Queen!

Over the years I owned several filter queen and tristar vacuums,I am sticking with the tristar because I prefer the hose and attachments on the tristar over the filter queen's.

Good info on that, Fred I grew up in Greendale, now im on the Southwest side of the city right by Greenfield. When did you live there?
