There is a member on this site who I arranged a trade with. I sent the vacuum cleaner, had numerous emails from him stating why he had not shipped me my trade. He has since changed his phone number and will not reply to any of my emails. Not sure if I can put his name out there but if I can let me know and I will post it. Just don't want to see anyone else get burned by this guy

Hell yes! We've had some issues in the past and believe those were resolved after exposure, so I see no problem in the reveal.

While some might think it's not appropriate, I agree that being exposed helps. I'm currently in the same situation. I sent a Kirby d 80, and $200 worth of NOS parts and the metal bits from a G3 to a member on here to be polished. Well it's been three years and he still has my stuff. All told he has around $640 worth of stuff. I also sent him a oreck platinum to try since he said it would be done in three months.

His boyfriend of 9 years left him so he had to sell the house and move to a friend then another guy dumped him moved again. Thought he found the one and that guy dumped him. His mom died as well. Tried committing suicide was in a rehab clinic a couple months ago.

At this point I do t give a flying F&&k about his issues, actually a year ago I stopped caring about his life issues. We talked often for a couple of years before I had him rebuild my Kirby. So yeah I know the feeling and still send a text or email trying to get ahold of him.

Ok , basically I had a family member who purchased an Epic 6500 in 1993. Only used it a month and hated it so she put it away in a closet . Gave it to me 20 years later 2013. I used it a few times but also put it away. I really want a Hoover Celebrity II elite and a Kenmore canister 1973-1974 so I figured I would either trade it or sell it. I put a thread on the supermarket forum and he wanted to trade the kenmore for the lux. He sent pics, texted me, seemed pretty honest. I sent the lux, he texted me that he received it and that the kenmore was on its way. I never received it and he began not responding to texts or emails for days at a time. Then the excuses were " I was away, I was sick, it came back from the post office, etc. I was very patient and now there is no contact and phone number is changed. His name is Chris Byrd and lives in Tennessee. If I do receive the kenmore I will certainly clear his name, but as of now he is a thief. Sorry for the rant , just don't want to see any other members get screwed

It would be nice to have a way to trade stuff, like a clearing house where each party could send their stuff, and someone could supervise, make sure "the stuff" arrived, and then send it back out to the other party.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the guy at the Vacshop in Elizabethton, TN. I've tried calling and sending email to see if he's still cleaning out the ware house, but neither work.

Thankfully, those are two different people! From what I've heard, the warehouse guy (rugsucker) is a pretty reputable salesman. He's sold on eBay and to those lucky few who come home with a station wagon full of vacuums from his warehouse clean-out!

I think you're correct, Super Sweeper. I found a different phone number for Vacshop guy, and literally got off the phone with him. He said he's keeping things simple and has only one phone number now. A lot of people are doing that by just using their cel phone service.

and to think, i almost sent him a kenmore for his Electrolux Epic 6500 that was 'brand new'. No wonder i never heard back when i asked for his address

As above,NO.It would be great to know collectors nearby and long ago there was an older Mr. Byrd who sold Electrolux but I have no idea about 'Chris Byrd'and TN is a very long state,east to west.It is said to be a shorter drive to Canada than the western edge of TN from here.
Also, as above any who call 423-268-4841 (before I turn off phone!) can reach me and find out what is available(LOTS !!)However best way to aquire is wait for EBay or personal visit.Just this morning a collector left with chrome top Rainbow,8 SE Rainbow,Hoover Convertible zipper bags and MORE!

There is another vac collector who also had a similar experience with Chris Byrd. Shipped him a vac, and never got the vac that was supposed to be shipped to him.
It's very sad.

Most of us who have been collecting for any amount of time have had some unfortunate experiences with other collectors. I've been burned pretty badly a couple of times.

But life's too short to focus on the gyps and scams -- I've gotten over those experiences, considering them life-lessons. I'm more cautious now about entering into deals with people I've never met or only marginally know on-line.

I feel blessed to have had many great experiences with people on this forum, some of whom I've never met. Will Helm immediately comes to mind with his kind gift of the very first Kenmore Power Nozzle ever - given to make my Kenmore Saturn complete. Many, many others have been very kind as well. Not only helping the Vacuum Museum's collection - but those I've bought from or traded with. I realize that I'm very lucky, as the 'bad seeds' are also around.
