Thinking of the Panasonic 902 listed at #10, is it better than the Panasonic 917 canister?

Panasonic Vacuums

The Panasonic i mentioned above was actually #8 in the list. This brand of vac has suddenly popped up on the radar for me & i wonder about their offerings. I just bought an upright Kenmore (made by Panasonic, see link) demo unit off ebay that's enroute & am curious about what others think of Panasonic.

Panasonics are tending to use motors that don't last as long any more. Supposedly 5 years or so for many. Not exactly sure which canisters it really affects or all. The power nozzles are all Cen-Tec. Not bad, not great. They're very powerful, quiet power nozzle motors, chevron brush rolls with stiff bristles and serpentine belts. But no suction duct for belt side edge cleaning bristles. The suction units look pretty nice. The MCCG902 is the same style as original Kenmore Progressive. Suction is great, very large bag capacity can fit standard Kenmore bags or Q cloth HEPA bag, 4 piece tool set. It's easy to find for about $180 too. So I still like them. The MCCG917 is a different tool set you get stuck with the combination upholstery/ dusting tool, but you do get an air turbine tool, and variable speed motor. Both machines look sharp and have brilliant headlights. The red MCCG902 is gorgeous and has been a Best Buy for Consumer Reports for past year or so.

For uprights I'd go pure Panasonic and skip Kenmore. Panasonic Platinum line. Or look to Riccar Vibrance, Simplicity Symmetry.

Miele and Electrolux make up the majority of that list....especially considering the wide variety they carry.

Kenmore badged Panasonics

A few years ago I found this Kenmore Progressive at a thrift store marked at $25.00  It was half price day, and I got it for $12.50.  Notice that there is a sticker on it that said it needed a belt.  This is a direct drive model, and doesn't use a belt.  I noticed that the brushroll switch was off, and when I turned it on, the brushroll sprang to life.  The machine came from someone that took excellent care of it because there was no dirt in it anywhere, and it even had a brand new disposable bag in it.  It is one of my favorite vacuums, and I use it regularly.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing on that Kenmore. I looked at the picture first and said to myself: "That unit is direct drive, there is no belt!!" Glad you like it jfalberti. I'll have to try one out some day!

It's a great vacuum.  Only thing I don't like about it is the cord is very stiff.  I've heard that is common among Kenmore's uprights.

I like my Oreck Graphite I bought a couple of months ago...the only thing that bothers me about it is the noise - but considering that it does a very good job on my floors, it doesn't bother me, and the filtration is pretty good too
