Another Great Southern Cake Recipe - Better Than Sex
I am usually not a cake person, but this one stands out in my memory. Rich, creamy and delicious. Better Than Sex Cake.

Well, I Made It
The layers were a bit thin, but the frosting made up the height. Good to take to a Labor Day BBQ. Terry Lattz always said that you need to use a Sunbeam Mixmaster to make a cake, so in honor of him, I dug it out.[this post was last edited: 9/4/2017-23:34]

rose again with Lee's surrender, and a reconstruction grant from Lincoln. Dissent caused the south to be ravaged, and yes the civil war was about slavery, because they seceded after the emancipation.
I guess ya'll could secede again, but when those hurricanes hit, you need that FEMA money, not a wall on the border.
Houston needs much higher levee's now also.
When any one or any group thinks they are better than another, and they push it in our faces, we fought and won equality!
Blacks did it, and gays did it.

Human minds are all the same. None are inferior. Will we "rise" up to nurture one another, or allow our dissent to further divide and destroy us? It's going to take a lot more than self rising flour.
Deplorable thoughts provoke deplorable actions.
Those who called our former president a monkey, a Kenyan, his wife Moochelle, etc. made a lot of people angry again, like in the 1960's.

They do some pretty stupid things in "the south" considering its 2017. For example, they don't sell liquor on Sundays. And, you have to drive a very long way the rest of the week to buy it at State Owned liquor stores, so the state itself makes the tax AND the profit. What a scam! When I asked why in this day and age that's allowed to happen, I got one answer: the baptists. Where I live, you can buy it in WalMart. In many ways it's like it is still 1877 and time has stood still.

My sister in law was raised baptist. She took up smoking in high school.
Her brothers were dopers. My mom would have sent me to reform school, or worse. She'd have told me she brought me in and can take me out.
Their mom did read the bible every day though.

Do you know the difference between a Baptist and a Catholic? A Catholic will say "hello" to you in a liquor store, and a Baptist will pretend they didn't see you. That way they were never there.

DysonMan, ummm, not sure what south you live in but me and my kin have been buying hootch on Sun since I was a wee little guy at private stores.
The laws in NC have been changed-you can buy your hooch on Sundays now.

Michigan prohibited the sale of beer and alcohol until noon Sunday before 2012 ish.
How about this cake?; Vanilla layer cake with orange liquor flavored gelatin cream poured into the holes after it has baked, then topped with whipped cream.
Creamsicle boozy cake. o1o o!o

Let's see, the progressive northern state of Pennsylvania only sells liquor at state owned liquor/wine stores that happen to open on Sunday from 11 AM till 7 PM and beer is sold in separate stores known as, "beer distributors", which are not allowed to sell wine.
Sounds easy to get your alcoholic beverages for holidays or events...........Really?
If you look at another progressive northern state, Maryland, their liquor laws for their approx. 24 counties are a mishmash of archaic thinking too unless it is a major grocery store grandfathered in under yet another law. Another easy place to shop............Really?
And my all time favorite progressive northern state and their laws? See below:

BTW, you can buy beer and wine in NC on Sunday after 12 noon and purchase alcohol in restaurants on Sunday after 12 noon. Those laws apply to many, many states north, south, east and west.

Born and bred, I'm STAYING because I LOVE the South, I don't drink so I don't give two cents if they sell liquor or not any day, ,And I think all our historical monuments should be left alone, Lots of things insult me, but I don't try to destroy them, LIVE AND LET LIVE!If you all don't like the South or our ways, we are not making you move here!

I too like most monuments. Gettysburg is also full of civil war monuments.
It is what we have or have not learned from history that matters. It seems some would prefer it be repeated.
The member who posted "the south will rise again" started it. The same member who posted the photoshopped picture on November 9th. last year of Mrs. Clinton performing felatio on a crt screen, saying the "deplorables" had a good election day.
Robert deleted the thread, but I have a good memory.
Today I read on facebook that Disney World, etc., etc. should be inundated by floods, and the earth cleansed, like the same member above said it is time to salt the earth on the thread about pesky weeds.
I also remember you saying here you are a liberal university professor, so given your education and experience, you are not a shallow person in the least.
I am also non ignorant and wish no harm on any American from any storm, economic decline, or act of war.
Should the earth be "salted", we will all be gone.

I agree about the recipe derailing
My late father was from the south, so, my family still has ties, customs, recipes, etc. I think the monuments..... are HISTORY. They should not be removed. As they say, "If we forget history, it may repeat itself".
I neither drink nor smoke. Does anyone need to be able to purchase anything 24/7? In PA, one may buy alcohol in "Sate stores", Spirits stores, etc. One of our local supermarkets, JUST OPENED an alcohol section. It is changing.
As far as the cuisine goes, my late mother, (a marvelous cook), learned to make scrumptious southern delights, much to the delight of my father. His sister, my 100 year old aunt..... was NOT happy that "that Northern, Yankee, cooked so well". We cannot be responsible for the narrow thinking of others.....anyone.

I graduated high school in Wilson NC and started college in Laurinburg and I remember pig pickins very fondly. I was just surprised at first that people would line up behind the hog and just start pulling meat off of it. I'm a native Texan and to us, barbecue is usually always beef, but North Carolinians have something very special there. It's amazing! About the only other type of pork I prefer is good quality bacon or cracklings from Louisiana.
