If They would just!!

Go back to a model G with a direct connect hose and a nice powernozzle, they would have something, If im going to pay that kind of money...and im not...for a vacuum, it better damn well be all metal!!!and not look like a tinkertoy!

Hans:

I agree with you that Aerus should go back to a metal canister. However, the Automatic G would NOT sell in today's marketplace. Simply put, it doesn't have the modern features & filtration that today's consumer demands when you spend over $1G. If they could incorporate features like speed control, HEPA filtration & the new-style plastic wands, then perhaps the Automatic G might work.

And I may have said this before, but I'll say it again....the Aerus Classic needs to be dropped. It's simply an outdated design. I'll go as far to say that Aerus made a HUGE mistake by not keeping the Guardian Ultra as a MOL model & making the Aerus Legacy it's new BOL model.

Hans:

I understand that's what YOU want....and the majority of us collectors. BUT, that's not what the average family wants today. That's the reason why Miele, Sebo & Riccar/Simplicity have taken a HUGE bite out of Aerus & other DTD brands. And the last time I checked, Aerus is selling to normal consumers, not collectors....and that means if they want to remain competitive in today's marketplace, they had better offer innovative products like the Guardian Platinum.

The GP looks like a cross between a XXX & original Guardian.

@luxman107
I can't believe U paid under $2000! The San Antonio Aerus/Electrolux dealer doesn't yet have the GP until January; & they charge $2500.

Hopefully, I pay less than MSRP.

The Main thing...

I hate about the newer machines is the pistol grip and those clunky plastic wands, Electrolux aluminum wands were so much better.

Some Thoughts On The Platinum

I sold equipment both residential and commercial for Lux on the streets of Boston for more than a decade back in my days with Jimmy Hoffa. After numerous calls from my buddies at lux and lots of back and forth on the price of the unit (Believe me I know EVERY angle inside Lux) I picked up my Lux Guardian Platinum this afternoon to evaluate whether I would consider selling for them again part-time.

I have been after Lux's engineering dept. since 2003 to bring this machine (then the Lux-1 Royal) to the North American market. People used to say IBM was tough to deal with. I found Lux corporate tough to deal with (lack of R&D and poor understanding of target market and competing products coupled with sky-high prices) and the Guardian Ultra became the straw that broke the camel's back for me. The Platinum is mostly a hit with a few misses. Far and away the best machine since the Silverado Deluxe with P/N 5 which was, overall, probably the best vacuum they or any vacuum manufacturer ever made. Certainly Filter Queen, Air-Way, Kirby and Rainbow join that short list.

The Good:

1. Smooth, Quiet and VERY Powerful.
2. Great Informative Display you can actually see.
3. Super Filtration with twin HEPA.
4. Excellent hose and cord length (a little ArmorAll on the cord makes it retract better)
5. Easy to use and Stainless/black body Looks REALLY Cool!
6. Bags are small but same as C Bags in capacity and reasonable $$$.
7. Best overall quality since early 80's and Old Greenwich, CT
8. Scent capability and about same weight as Electrolux Oxygen and Miele Capricorn
9. The combo tool, crevice tool, Sidekick III and Combo rug and floor tool are excellent quality.

Not So Good:

I have always hated this WAL-MART wand and hose grip and adding the above floor accessories , complete with the Legacy/ECV adapter for the combo tool adds insult to injury. Most companies would have learned their lesson from the Guardian Ultra project . The Tristar wands ARE better than the Epic wands. I will give them that. They should have used the LUX Intelligence hose grip and control switches on this hose along with the aluminum telescoping wand mated to the Lux Omniflo nozzle. The P/N needs a better quality elbow on the nozzle itself. Don't misunderstand. This current setup yields superb performance and this machine has enough power to bury the nozzle in really thick carpet. Because of this, I might have opted for an OEM agreement with SEBO and included the PB-1 or PB-2 as it pulls itself along more like it's self-propelled. Some sound absorbing material under the P/N cover would also be a nice touch. The bags should have been the MediClean cloth from Lux. These Aerus bags leak enough dust to stain the HEPA first the time out. Lux IOTA spun-woven polypropelene bags were fantastic and would also have been good in this machine! A pair of aluminum wands from the Olympia should have also been included for the floor tool.

At the end of the day I may give this a shot again just for toy money. I am pretty fussy when it comes to quality and it's all about the details. This is a VERY nice vacuum and I have owned ALL of the current TOL canisters including SEBO, Miele, Simplicity and Filter Queen. In it's current form is as good as its competition and a lot like buying Deere, Massey Ferguson or Kubota. In the end it boils down to personal preference. Each of the TOL machines on the market has design issues that need to be corrected including the Miele. This machine is no different. All are of excellent build quality and the Lux is the machine I would buy for my wife.

If you are near Winston Salem NC and want to see the Platinum I have one in the showroom. I will not have them available to sell until January however.

I agree.....the hose handle on the European Intelligence/Australian Sauber is far more elegant. Since Aerus is officially partners with Lux International, I can't figure out why they just did not go all out and provide the more easy-to-use, sleeker handle.

Personally, I think that this Aerus vac is going to be very successful in North America. I am curious to read what Consumer Reports testing will reveal about its performance relative to other vacs on the market.

I saw one of these at my local state fair. They also had an Electrolux XXX in great condition on display there.

Lux Platinum Wands

Due to the hurricane I had a chance to catch up with an old friend who is a former Lux guy who owns a couple Miele shops. I was surprised how similar in outside diameter their new chrome telescoping Miele wand is in comparison to the wands on my Platinum. They are almost triangular in shape and seem a larger OD than the black ones on my Silver Moon with SEB 236 were. Sitting next to a Sebo D4 wand and P/N setup they are huge. Nevertheless, they are nice quality and have a great look. He also had the new Miele S8? which has the velvet strip outside and velvet in the tool caddy. I guess they range price-wise from $900 to $1500 with a larger hose handle control and more features. I guess maybe these black TriStar wands will be OK.

I really like this Lux (Flexible Technologies) Platinum hose though I like the braided hose on the Intelligence better. A tape measure on the hoses for Earth and Capricorn and the Capricorn comes up well over a foot shorter than the Earth. Also the amount of dirt in the Platinum bag after just two uses is significant. The Lux P/N with the double-helix design does clean well and is VERY quiet and extremely smooth, more so than those I sold on previous models of the Legacy and Guardian. On deep carpet the auto mode definitely comes in handy. Anyone know how to teach a German Shorthaired Pointer who is 16 mos. old how to wipe her feet before she hits the Berber?

I really like my platinum so far. That new style p bag hold quite a lot of dirt like the C bag. When full it come out solid like a brick just like the style C ..

Here's a nice little video of the Australian Sauber version of the Aerus Platinum...not very scientific but it shows the vac in use by a homemaker which shows that it seems to be pretty easy to use. Love the mini power head!
