TO BE INTRODUCED IN JANUARY, AERUS GUARDIAN PLATINUM.

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Do they make a good vacuum cleaner- yes. It does perform well, however Aerus has an old school business model that does not work well in today's marketplace. They are just a distributor and manufacturer that sells to franchise locations, who hire door to door salespeople to sell the products. They are way overpriced and lack convenience features such as sound insulation, variable speed control, adjustable wands, and cloth bags. Their upright model does not have on board tools, which is annoying. I feel a lot of models need major redesign and they need a new strategy to promote the product to the consumer other than d2d. There are better options dollar for dollar with Sebo and Miele which are both solid and reliable. The newest Aerus Platinum is a much needed improvement but how many households will own one or even know of the brand? It's just poorly marketed. They need to promote and advertise 10x better because they sold the Electrolux name. Not many people know what the hell aerus is

DTD has the strong advantage-the customer can clearly see how well the machine performs on HIS furnishings---not the dealers. The customer has quicker feedback on how well the vacuum cleaner works in his home-and how easy or difficult to use-and the salesman -if properly trained can show the customer better how to use the machine.I think DTD sales can work well-the salesman has to be an EMPLOYEE of the vacuum company,NOT a contractor.

Maybe in certain parts of the country door too door sales can work and be successful business. But not all franchises of this company work the same way or have a solid salesforce that is willing to go door to door. I know here on Long Island NY, we have lost a few locations over the years. To compete in the current marketplace, Aerus needs to expand and allow its products to be sold through other mediums. Sebo allows a 30 day trial so the customer can evaluate if the vacuum is right for their household... Aerus is usually a whopping 3 day cancellation policy.

Aerus marketing

Many good ideas above-If Done RIGHT.Before planning the future maybe Aerus should look at the past that included a brief program with Sears.I think Elux had a full page in at least one catalog that included the Regina/Electrolux Broom. And then Elux in Sam's club with different color and slightly different features. Then a program for a local Salesperson to be at the Sam's display to make up for lost customers, whether real or imagined. Then TV advertising for Disc II with toll free no on screen. Then a home show program including the Centralux central vac that was unfamiliar to most Elux managers & sales force.--True story-A long time Elux salesman was at a steak house saled bar when approached by a long time loyal Elux customer who had the followng to say-"You SOB!!!I was in Sam's and the vac you sold me for $XXX was selling for only $xx (about a $200 diference)!--This was where Elux managment thought he could explain"But your Elux is a prettier color and has a bumper on the floor tool."and all would be well.----And now we have Aerus and finding a branch office with salespeople is like looking for a typewriter store or the Oldsmobile dealer.

Aerus most empahtically does NOT do R&D...

I was the branch manager of the Electrolux branch in Ft. Wayne, IN from 1998 to 2002. I was there for the demise of the Electrolux name. I am the only person ever in the company history to address the engineering team, at the behest of James McCain, chief of operations at the factory in Bristol. I was to have headed up a field research product development team. This was in 2000, and shortly thereafter came the sale of the glorious Electrolux name. James' words to me were"Robert, with you in my hip pocket I can put this company back to where it used to be within three years." Joe Urso had other plans. I stayed in contact with one of the engineers until he was let go. All of the engineers were let go. So terribly sad.

I accurately forecast the sale of machines on QVC, and the date, a Saturday, when the field sales force were all in sales rallies.

There was a huge testing facility within the factory, and two engineers whose job it was to study for and pass certification exams of all descriptions. Testing was done even for competitors' machines. So much was ignorantly cast aside. It was heartbreaking.

Platinum....

I have recently become a sales rep for Aerus Electrolux and I was in Louisville, KY over the weekend picking up a couple new machines to sell.  While I was there, I had the opportunity to get to play with a new Platinum Guardian and I must say I am EXTREMELY impressed with it!  First of all, that is a beautiful machine and the power is absolutely amazing!  The guy who owns the shop told me that the machine is more powerful than a central vac!  He opened the door on it, placed a clipboard on top of it and when the suction grabbed that board, the machine clamped down on it and would not let that clipboard go.  I held the clipboard, lifted the machine and while the motor was running, I could not shake it off that board!  The motor is very quiet as well, I am completely impressed with the unit, I would absolutely love to own one, but they are way too much for my budget.  Maybe if I sell enough of these other machines, I may be able to save up enough to buy one for myself!

Demo with Clipboard

Reminds me of--GE demo-Many swivel tops were sold in stores with large appliances. Some would demo by removing lid, turning on and letting suction hold to side of stove that could be tilted up by lifting vac.--Hoover demo-Swingette with hose removed can be stuck to glass door of store during demo.--Vintage Elux demo-I have been told some older Elux(maybe E,G,R ?)could be stuck to ceiling or door frame with suction. Was very good demo and likely to result in sale UNLESS the suction was stronger than the paint, plaster and wallpaper!

I have had my new platinum 5 days now. Really like it alot.. Two things I wish were different.. The first is that lux should have designed it to use the same C bag it has used in all of its canisters since the fifties.. The second thing is when you turn the machine off at the main switch, the power nozzle motor has to be turned off separately at the hose handle. Other wise it is an a great machine, easy to use and has the the grat Electrolux accessory tools lux has always been known for.

hmmm.. not impressed,,,

I visited the local Aerus vac shop to check out the new Guardian platinum.

I disconnected the hose, picked the vacuum up and moved it close to an outlet.

I plugged the vacuum in and pushed the switch to the on position.( the switch felt very flimsy)

The vacuum turned on. I put my hand over the front of the machine to feel the suction against the open palm of my hand

The suction was very powerful.

I did NOT like the high- picthed sound of the motor, although it was quiet.

I did NOT like the over all "feel" of the vacuum body.

The cord winder felt very cheaply made.

I opened up the front door of the vacuum to see the bag chamber,,,looked like very cheap plastic.

I then turned the vac off and returned it to where it was on the sales floor.

I really am not impressed with the quality, cheaply made Electrolux/Aerus vacuum.

I can see now how much i value the older , Luxes, in over all build and quality.

The price is also out of proportion to the quality.

I was very disappointed .

Is there a way I can use the Platinum or Epic 6500 style hose/tools on a 1205?

I may not be able to afford the nice Platinum at this moment. :(

Erik:

The only way you would be able to use the hose from the Guardian Platinum or Epic 6500 is if you were able to put a metal hose connector on the hose. Or, if it's possible, take the handle off a replacement 1205/Super J/Silverado/Marquise hose, & find some way to put the handle from a Guardian Platinum or Epic 6500 on it. So, unless you know how to fabricate something or know someone to do it for you, you're outta luck I'm afraid to say.

Not saying this is a bad model...but its comically overpriced for what you get...and they are not readily availabe and well known. Electrolux in Big Box stores is whats known by the majority of consumers. Aerus is new and underground, they can sell these units at a much more attractive price if they got the name out there and sold more units, rather than a few overpiced sales per week/store.

Some store locations are very nice and operable, whereas others are dumps or have closed down. No oversight at the corporate level. Total disconnect between the LLC and the fanchise.

Prices need to be more attractive... you can get a Sebo D4 with extras for $899. The platinum is supposedly $2,200 with discounts/neg. maybe $1,700... and NO telescoping wand or 360 degree hose swivel.
