Thrift Store Finds!!!

I had a lucky day going thrift storing here today here in St. Louis. The first store I went into I found this Eureka Vactronic powerteam for $6. It doesn't however have the hose or the powernozzle, but for $6 I couldn't pass it up. It's in good condition and just needs a bit of cleanup and I will keep my eyes out for a hose and P/N. The second thrift store I visited I got real lucky and couldn't hardly believe my eyes when among a group of crappy old dirt devils and some other stuff I spotted a nearly mint Hoover model 63. It is in SUCH nice shape. It has the original bag, with no tears or bad spots AND the original blue cord that says HOOVER on the plug. The sole plate has a small bit of rust on it but the bottom of the machine is in excellent overall condition. I plugged it in and it purrs just as it should, I just need a belt. The real awesome thing about this machine is that I only paid $2.50 for it. It was marked $5 but it was 50% off day! I'd say I had a pretty lucky day

Wow Derreck, you sure lucked out with those, especially seeing as how the combined total was less than $10!!! That Hoover 63 is just gorgeous! I'm wondering, does it have the Type W disposable bag setup?

I'm pretty sure a Convertible belt will work, but if you're looking for some Model 63 belts, I could send you a couple. Let me know.

The model 63 is the first machine to use the C style bag. Tom has a few of the original gray style C bags, and I think the belt for it is different than a convertible belt. If you have a belt for a model 63 that would be great!! It is a very nice looking machine, I started to clean it up tonight, but think I'll finish tommorrow.. getting tired.. lol.

I think you can use a Eureka round belt for the 63. I use Eureka belts for the older "coffee can" Hoovers. Congratulations on those finds. I always say it's in the trill of the hunt and the find that makes collecting fun!!

Wow Derrick, what great finds! It seems like you have the golden touch today. The 63 is one of the best Hoover cleaners that they have ever built. If you post your serial number, I would be more than happy to tell you how far into the run it is. The bags on them did not hold up terribly well, so to find one all original is rare indeed. They made a lot of these but not many survived in such good shape. I wish the brushes were still available. Congrats!!!

The bag on this machine is in SUCH nice condition. It was however a bit dirty so I took it off of the bellows and layed it in the bathtub with some warm water and woolite and just ran my hands over the top of it and then rinsed it good. I hung it up to dry and it looks VERY nice. Seems like a good method for washing delicate bags.

Derrick...the serial numbers on the 63 began with A1,130,001 and they sold 541,751. I would say that yours is middle to late production probably late 1955 or 1956. The ending serial number according to my information is A5457313. I am not sure if the numbers went sequential or not. I hope this helps some. Again congratulations on the 63 it is one of the great Hoover cleaners AND you got a bargain to boot.
