I am thinking of getting rid of my Eureka Boss 1934A. It just does not pick up well. Though I am still undecided, but if I do, I would probably price it at $120.

I was wiping all the dust down with clorox, and when I got to the bottom of the vacuum, sugar came out of the brush roll area. Like a lot of sugar came out. The sugar was from when I tested all my uprights to see which one picked up better. The Wards picked up the best, followed by the Hoover Convertible, and the Eureka barely picked up. This was back in 2013.

So anyways, all this sugar comes out. The bag was very full, so I replaced it. I am not sure if it had to do something with the bag, or if the Eureka is just an awful vacuum. My Hoover and Wards both have much better suction.

Was it that the bag was full?

Also, check the bag. Sometimes those top fill F&G bags are installed back to front, or bent upside down...that is if there is a Genuine Eureka F&G bag installed. Be sure to follow this arrangement: fill tube toward the handle, bag toward the zipper. :-)

Then what should I used to test out machines? And I think the bag is in right. I turned it on and the bag puffs up really big, with air coming out from the top.

There are a lot of things, shredded paper, oatmeal, glitter (which I would never use. Too messy) hamster bedding, and more. Usually those eureka machines are excellent cleaners there are several things that could factor in poor performance, for example... Bad brush roll, worn belt, clogged bag pores, chipped or broken fan blades, those are usually easy to fix if they have any issues at all.

I did not really want to buy the vacuum, but they seemed like they just wanted to get rid of it at Goodwill. So I took it off their hands. I wiped it down and realized how scratched up it was. The dust was covering a lot of scratches. So it would not sell for $120 if I were to sell it. As for fixing it, I could maybe take the machine apart and take a look at the fan. It might actually be chipped. It's not really vintage either. Mine was made in 93. Not really that old. 80s and below is vintage.

Most likely you need to change the bag. I've never had that problem on mine but sugar can be sticky and could possibly stick inside and come back out later.

And in my opinion $120 is too high. You can buy a brand new one for less than that and used ones are common. I think they are very good machines though. I like mine, and paid $8 at the thrift store. It just needed a good cleaning and a new bag and belt.

you're kidding, right?

Eureka sells these new for $99 online,I got my 1934B for FREE from a vacuum Shop, only needed a cord & brush-roll.the 1934A (older brother) for FREE at a garage sale, the bag had rotted off! Rice is a good thing to test vacuums with! Install a new bag and belt and go from there!
