the weekend of June 4. He was coming for the convention, but is celebrating his anniversary. I'll take him all around: Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, etc. He'll be shown everything. He'll also be a great help to me. Pics will follow when that happens. It will be great to have him here, even if it's not the actual dates of the convention. He would be welcome at the event, because it was his choice to leave, in good standing.
He'll help me with a lot of my vintage Hoovers, too. Looking forward to Tom's visit to Northeast PA !
flowers, and a bedroom knob with a lock... to keep the cats safe during the visit here. None of the bedroom doors has locks. But, the kitties will "camp out" in a spare room, as, their apt will be full of Hoovers, parts, paperwork, etc.
It's a lot to prepare. We're having some nice, tasty snacks, too.
One of the nice things about the convention being in different cities is we get to see various areas, different members' home, collections, etc. It's always new. Nobody complains about getting machines here and there. Sometimes, due to travel, we cannot bring our machines. Other times, we can. That's part of it being in different places. It's always 'fresh'.
Some have liked seeing the "preparations" through this thread. Some don't care. Others are annoyed. But, it isn't their concern anyway.
The members are , of course, invited to my home, as part of the events.
There are some who simply are not invited and will not be welcomed. Sad that has to be, but, it "is what it is".
But the rest, "hey, welcome to the 'palace'...again, a name given to the place by 3 different people, not by me. It's just a big old house, but, it is my home. It has opened it's door to people for over 140 years, survived coal mine subsidence, "The Great Depression", etc. Good people, good food, good fun. It's all good.
I'd never have seen. I've been to Texas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Minneapolis, Oregon, etc. We've been to so many people's homes. enjoyed their collections, etc.
So, it's always fresh. The food is different, the climate, the attractions, the collections....
And, every 'convention' incurs a cost. People go to eateries, stay in hotels, motels, etc. So, there IS always a cost, contrary to belief.
I've met some wonderful people. Some have become lifelong friends.
Some are quirky, fun, kind. And, as in everyday life, I've encountered some very unusual people too.
It truly is amazing. We were once a major source of anthracite coal. This museum is rich in history. There are several other authentic museums around here too. A coworker of mine at the college is on this museum board, and is arranging something great. They'll be listed on our paper.
And, Tom Anderson is coming to visit this Thursday. He'll be a great help. Plus, I'll be able to show him around our area. Vintage cleaners will be run a lot.
I know both cities (Wilkes-Barre and Scranton are stops on our list.
He did mention wanting to visit The Dunmore Candy Kitchen..possible to take some chocolates back to N Canton. (It's his wedding anniversary soon.). Whatever he'd like to do, we'll do. I'll show him the old location of the late Betty Fritz , Gnall Jones, (written up a few times in The Hoover News), etc.
Joe Kassock will join us for dinner one night.
He will be a great help to me. True friends, indeed.
It will be sooo good to have him herein Pittston, finally...after all these years.
I hope the 'guests' who share the house with me 'behave' during the convention.
I know the kitties are being secured in a spare room. Harold has NEVER seen the room he'll be in. Should be interesting. Still waiting for a carpenter. Some stuff simply will not be finished. Very hard to secure a carpenter/electrician, cement guy at the moment. They are busy, or (my) regular guy is treating Cancer at the moment. Kinda hard to ask if he can stop over after radiation. Hope he'll be ok.
I'm making gallons of the 'tea', as, Tom enjoys it too. Silly little snide remarks about that. But, they'll never drink it, so......................
Tom and I are in a spare room unboxing things to give away sell display etc. it’s like Christmas I am unearthing things I had a long forgotten about isn’t it fun?
