The Ultimate Hoover VS Eureka Test!

Today, I did a fun vacuum test.

My dad and his girlfriend's bedroom hadn't been vacuumed in ages. So I vacuumed with my Hoover WindTunnel 2 Rewind Pet. I got a full canister from that room! That's how long it has gone without a vacuuming.

This is how the test went: First, I ran the Hoover over the carpets TWICE very throughly. I then took the crevice tool and went over all the edges. The Hoover has a nice, aggressive brushroll.

I then took my Eureka AirSpeed Unlimited Rewind and ran it back over the carpet. The results were interesting: there was a small fistful of hair and fluff, plus a nice pile of dust and grit.

Why? I think it all comes down to the AirSpeed technology. By reducing the distance at which the air flows through, the Eureka cleans a lot better than the Hoover! Also, the Eureka seems to agitate the carpet a lot more, although it has the same power as the Hoover (12 amps).

I can come behind both of them with a straight suction Filter Queen and get a pile of dirt, Try it, it sounds impossible, but it really does work!

The Eureka is probably better but....

Due to it's shorter and probably wider airpath i'd imagine the Eureka to have the better flow. And most modern vacs use similarly stiff bristles so I cannot imagine that there's a big difference in agitation either.

That said this form of testing isn't really a good way to determine a vac's performance. I used to do things like this but the problem is it's not really reproducible and there's so many variables that are not controlled. Like the amount of soil, distribution, how far things have been crushed into it, etc.

As Hans stated above if you do go over any vacuumed area with just about any other vacuum it will find dirt. I showed this to one of my old co workers once by vacuuming a rug sprinkled with pink sand with the TOL Simplicity Synergy then followed it up with their Pixie corded stick vac, while it did not find much the Pixie did indeed find some pink sand. No vacuum gets 100%. The more effective ones just get more per pass.
