The Royal you call a model 997 would be either a 992 or 993 if it has the 6 amp motor and 6-blade fan, or a model 994, 995 or 996 if it has the 7 amp motor and 9-blade fan. If it is a 994, 995 or 996 it can date no later than about August 1990.

Also curious if the F-Handle on the Hanmi hose fits a Kenmore/Hayden wand or if it requires a specific wand? Is there an off/on switch on the handle? Does the brown cord connect to the wall end of the hose or somewhere else? I take it the brown cord provides power for the floor brush?

.

Ben: The royal is a 993

Phil: That i don't know i do not own hayden wands, i've been using it with the telescopic wand from my silver king. It has a three position switch (off, vacuum on, vacuum+powerhead.)The brown cord is for the low voltage system i would attach the inlet directly to the central vacuum since we lack the pipework for one. The actual pigtail for the hose is white.

Rob: i'll have to get back to you on that, i'm not really sure if it can be dissasembled or not and i don't currently have a box large enough for it.

Well....

Rob the price i'm getting for a 23x14x10 box weighing about 20 lbs is $123.69 it didn't ask for a postal code that's just the rate "to canada"

Rex: shoot me an email we'll get the details sorted out.

Blackheart, thanks for your reply. I will send you an email this afternoon to get the transaction for the Royal started. Also, if nobody else has claimed it, I am also interested in the Patriot powerhead.

Rob

No one else has inquired about the powerhead and i can probably fit it in the same box to save on shipping cost. I'm guessing royals are very rare in canada? I'll be out this afternoon but i'll respond when i return

What is a "low voltage system" on a central vacuum? Is the hose switch operating at line voltage or something else? Is this a two, three or four wire hose?

The floor brush with your Royal vacuum is identical to my Hayden Deluxe, but I can't see what the connection at the top of the wand looks like to judge whether your hose end would fit a Kenmore or Hayden wand. Panasonic made those floor brushes for a bunch of different companies as well as selling them with their own vacuums.

Low voltage

Is what activates a central vacuum. This is one the unit is turned on an off remotely. These hoses use four wires. It has two seperate circuits. One for low voltage and one for 120v to the power nozzle. Centec manufactors those power nozzles as well as many of the hoses. Royal uses a proprietary fitting that's not interchangeable with anything else. The neck and wiring could changed to a standard Hayden style but it wouldn't work with the royal.

I think Panasonic makes those floor brushes for Centec, along with Hayden, Kenmore and several others. The same head was sold with Panasonic branded vacuums. Mine is made in Mexico. Outer skins vary a little but underneath everything is the same. They are identical underneath to a couple of decades of the Kenmore Powermate.

So the low voltage lines operate a relay that switches the vacuum motor on and off and there is a separate circuit that I take it is always hot to power the floor brush? Hmmm. No way to adapt that to a canister vacuum. Bummer. I was looking for ways to make hoses for my old straight hose Kenmore canister vacs but this isn't going to be the solution.

Devin, I don't know about all of Canada, but I can say they are rare here in Ontario. The only Royal Metal upright I have ever found in person is my 670CA commercial model, & I know of 1 vac shop in London, Ontario that is selling a late 90's model with the Chinese motor. There's also a vac shop in London called McHardy Vacuum that sells new Royal Metal commercial uprights. But everywhere I have called looking around, most say they haven't seen one on their bench in over 20 years. So yeah, that would make them kinda rare LOL.

Well...

The royal uses an attachment system similar to older Filter queens (attachments or wands fit inside the hose end) so i cannot attach it to the central vac hose.
