The Miele S7 has landed in Canada!

From my understanding, Miele has moved on to focus more on their canisters and their cordless models. If you notice on Miele's US website as of now, there's only one U1 model left available to dealers which will soon be delisted just like all of their other international websites.

If that's the case, that's very sad. The U1 was fantastic, and I can only hope Miele has something on-deck to replace it, as Americans love uprights. Would be a shame to see it leave the market.

I'm not entirely sure if Miele would ever return on selling uprights. Maybe they are and there might be a replacement upright coming out soon but I can't really confirm, at least not just yet. This is all that I've discovered so far with Miele. But I definitely do agree with you, I think this would be a bad business move by Miele if they completely abandoned the upright market here in the US. The S7/U1 may not be my most favorite uprights ever made but they're still something that I would recommend over most uprights on the market today.

I had a U1 / S7 in 2010, 2011.

Quite underwhelming. Very cumbersome vacuums and absolute pigs to work on. No one doubts the suction power, but they never deep cleaned carpets are well as you might imagine. Used to bunny hop over thicker carpets.

Not as good as a Sebo Felix, or something with the ET-1 powerhead.

I think I tend to agree that Miele will not be releasing another upright machine. They typically would’ve already released it and would slowly phase out the Dynamic U1 as they are doing now. Instead they have not released a new model and are just phasing the Dynamic U1 out. I agree that they should not stick to only making canisters (at least for the United States market) but the S7/Dynamic U1 design has been around for the better part of thirteen years and has had only minor changes. It is definitely way overdue for Miele to have a new upright as the S7/Dynamic U1 was their first attempt at designing their own upright machine (as Panasonic made the previous upright for Miele). There were many things Miele did right on the S7/Dynamic U1 but at the same time there was a lot of room for improvement and a lot of things that should have been improved. Miele has just overall shown low interest over the years in the upright market. The last time they showed any interest was with the design and launch of the S7. It is sad because this was a beautiful machine, but it just did not hold up as well as other Miele products to the abuse of consumers and I have many customers turn down buying our Dynamic U1’s due to the weight of the machine and I’ve gotten several traded in due to weight issues or complete failure of several parts of the machine. I had an S7 (and still do) but I keep it at the store because I am looking to sell it due to the fact I no longer use it.

I picked up a like-new U1 a year or two ago. I will admit it's weight makes it very limiting. The very first time my wife used it she turned it off and told me I would be the only one using it because it was too heavy.

It is now relegated to my finished basement (man-cave) with wall-to-wall Berber Carpet. The room also has a lot of block winds towards the top of the wall that gets spider webs. This vacuum is perfect for this room. The low-pile carpet helps minimize the heaviness of the U1 and its extending hose comes in handy for the windows and carpeted stairs (for which I use a turbo brush accessory).

I find myself breaking out my Miele C3 canister only when I have "deep cleaning" days. Dragging around a canister is a bit cumbersome as well but really enables me to get to all the tight spots.

I've tried battery vacs in the past and just don't like them. Not enough power, not long enough battery life between charging, charging location can be awkward, battery longevity declines over time, etc... Ultimately, my Sebo Felix provides the best balance of cleaning needs that it gets the most use, by far.
