I couldn't believe my eyes...there it was just helplessly listing to starboard, it was as if it was sending out an SOS in a local antique shop. I thought, " Could it be!" Then I turned its heavy painted lead superstructure over, and that's when I seen it! It said Denmark, and in its funnel it read Pilot. I've only heard about these, I've never seen one. Germany invaded Demark early in the war, and the Pilot Toy Co. was not allowed sufficient quantity's of lead to continue to make there highly sought after lead models. They were a premier model ship maker, and during the war they were forced to use a lead and zinc amalgam, which was prone to zinc and tin disease. In not much time, the models would quite simply dissolve into nothing. But the German Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine would special order them, and they were all solid lead. From how highly detailed it is...superb for identifying a vessel from the air , I think it was more intended for the Luftwaffe, for dive bombing and strafing purposes.
