Hi Vacuumland.

She has arrived. My U4082, one of the rarest machines on this side of the pond nowadays I think.

She aint perfect, but she runs sweet as a nut, and will some TLC and some time, she will look almost like new. Some of the deeper scratches cannot be got out, but are not bad enough to bother me on somethings as different as this.

She has a bent rear axle, and there is a piece of the nozzle missing where something large has obviously been picked up and has knocked this chunk away, but nothing which cannot either be ignored or quite easily remedied.

Here are the pics then.

Oh i've always liked the look of these! :)

Such a macho 70s colour scheme, very Euro as my good friend Alan would say.

And another one.

Here is the underside. The chassis appears to be the same as the U4002/4014 ranger series.

And finally....................

Here is her birth certificate. Feb 1979 from what I can gather, as the commercial range only the 912A in 1969, and the colours scheme was completely different with the 1989 rane, and included the C1300 ranger of Powerplus based commercial uprights.

Oh My God

What happened to the Hoover medallion in the second photo?

Very cool Hoover. Forgive me for not paying attention, but did the UK get the waterfall-style motor cover?

The bag seems like a different pattern than the US machines. Tapers sharply toward the machine. Does it have any kind of dirt pocket/fill tube?

Thanks for sharing that unusual but good looking Hoover!

The Waterfall Hood

Hey David :)

Nope we didnt have that design :(.

Thats just a cloth dump bag- possibly slightly different in design to the U7008 type but the same idea!

Medallion,

Hi Swingette,

The medallion is not stuck on the machine, the sticky on its rear has worn off and that is why it is missing on a couple of the pictures, the ones with the medallion on were taken last when I realised the medallion had fallen off! LOL

Some glue dots sound like a good idea to me, but I aint got any at the moment.

Anyways, I am glad you all like her.

Seamus, will catch you either tonight or early in the week mate.

Happy hoovering all,

Clark.

P.S. Here is another full frontal! Enjoy.

Great find, Clark!

It's a dramatic colour scheme for sure, hehehe. the serial number seems to bear out its rarity - looks like the 75th one to be built that month, only Mike's Convertible has a lower one (no. 8 ISTR?)

As its rated at 420 watts, I wonder if it has the standard Senior motor with only the low speed coils energised? Either way, it's a cracking machine.

commercial

Hi Folks I used 2 of these at a big pub/restaurant i worked at in the mid 80s. I always thought they were recon resprayed seniors, but i remember the suction was stronger on the hose than the normal 652 senior, I thought this was due to no paper bag. As any senior owner knows the suction depreciates as the pores of the paper bag block really quickly, given the non sealed converter. Well i am shocked! I really didnt know our black and orange beauties were purpose built. I loved our two

Congratulations Clark!

Well done on obtaining such a rare machine. Heavy duty, and surprisingly light on the pocket, too ;)

I'm sure it will benefit from your TLC. One thing, though - I can't see what you mean about a piece of the nozzle missing (from viewing the photos, anyway!). How serious is the damage, and is it fixable?

Since it seems to have provisions for tools to be fitted, I take it a toolkit would have been available as an option for this machine?

PIece of nozzle missing.

Hi Jack,

I am looking forward to having her clean the house one day soon.

The piece missing from the nozzle is as shown below.

It is not a large piece, but it is noticeable, fortunately, I think with some body filler, and some time and care, it can be sorted and hopefully without being too visible. I know it is only me who will see it, but hey there ya go!

Hope you are good mate, happy hoovering.

Clark.
