My New "American Standard" Habitat Find

Well, this thread seems to have a life of it's own. Far be it from me to keep it alive. lol.

I found this little gem at our local HFH for $20.00. Sonneyndad (Clayton) or anyone else in the know; what have I got here. Is this a Standard Compact or a first generation "Cadet"? I haven't tested it yet but it looks in good condition.

It's looks like it has the original tank (according to Sonneyndad's reply #95) and there's no ridge in the bowl. I'll see if I can get some pictures posted. It's weird; all I can find is May 6-, but no year and some other numbers. Can anyone decifer this code? "R" seem to be a recurring theme. I don't know what it means.

I think after a muratic acid treatment, a new tank to bowl gasket and some new bolts she'll be good as new. Sure don't see those union stickers anymore. I love these old forward trap wash down toilets. Sorry some of the pics are blurry.

I recently got these American Standard toilets out of a house about to be torn down. The first one is of the one still installed next to the bidet. I did not get the bidet. The second picture is of the both toilets at my house, in front of the vacuums. :)

Sorry. I hadn't checked this thread for a long time. No one said anything at first, so I forgot about it.

Jonathan and Dave, thanks so much for the response. Thanks for dating the toilet for me. I wonder why it only says May 6 with no year? How did you know the year, Jonathan? And yes, I'm keeping the flush tower. In fact I'm keeping everything except the water valve. Thanks for the link to plumbing supply.com. I need a new grommet (#5) and a new seal (#7) wouldn't hurt. That information helps. I polished up all the copper and brass parts in the flush tower. It looks like new. When I get it finished I'll try to post some pictures. Thanks again guys.

Brian

The "T60" marking over the "Made In USA" stamp. "60" is the year. Not really sure what "T" stands for but they were all stamped that way at least until the mid '70s.

American Standard

I said I would post some pics of my A/S toilet after it was done. Was having some trouble with my picture program. This confuser?! I don't know sometimes. Let's try. It really does flush. I look forward to using someday. For now it's wrapped up with pallet wrap and stored. All it needs is a new rubber grommet for the top of the flush tower.

There's some guy in KC that's selling these and other vintage on ebay for quite a bit of money. They are some nice fictures but the price is awfully high. It's nice that he's saving them and he has some nice colors but I'm not sure about internals/mechanicals. I don't see any handles. Maybe he sells them separate.

Check out my link. Nice Kohler for my bathroom.

Looking for help

I have a pink American Standard toilet, sink and tub in my house that I am trying to get a date on. The toilet is a one piece that I believe is either Venetian Pink or Corallin. The underside of the toilet tank lid had several engravings such as:

T60 Made in USA

2000 12

Jan 4

Can anyone help me to identify anything about the toilet or color from these markings? ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Can a gravity fed toilet be converted to a "pressurized" toilet?

Is this a "gravity flush" to pressurized flushing toilet conversion kit?

Pro Flow fill valve bad, not old.

Yep, my 3 year old second 1.6 cheap builder grade pro flow decided to just start running a few days ago.
Couldn't figure out how to take it apart and seems to use some kind of vacuum port with a rubber stop thing on the float arm that shuts it off. Pulled it and put a Fluid Master PerforMax in it. It didn't want to shorten enough to hit the water line and I had to take it out 3 times but finally got it close enough.
Has a very large water flow fill rate and a crimper device, plus a lock on the float so it won't refill forever if it starts to leak down, but will release on a normal flush.
The crimper squeezes the fill hose to slow down the fill rate to make the tank happy and not overfill or cause issues.
Has a 7 year warranty and was around 13 bucks. They had another brand with lifetime for 10 and might try it in the other bathroom even though I bought a extra seeing how both toilets are the same and installed just before we bought this house.
These only had a 1 year warranty and have already been discontinued but you can still buy that part for 25 bucks. Probably replace both eventually with 1.2 dual flush units but just trying to keep things working cheap for now
It worked acceptably and was quiet and never hammered when it stopped filling but 3 years seems like a short life for that valve.
I redid the old school 81 toilet in our old rental 3 times in 22 years and whatever it was it would plug when you just looked at it. Pretty sure it was another builder grade from back then, but unfortunately that house only had 1 bathroom so I finally kept a complete rebuild kit in stock so when it died at 3 am on a weekend I could fix it.

Ghetto sled, Kohler Wellington, low water use.

Hey, I drive a ghetto sled. Not daily. Only in summer cruises and to shows.
I have an almond Kohler Wellington from our master bath. I moved it to the basement bath to replace the older Crane or Gerber that required two flushes every time.
As for low water use toilets, most work well, especially if air assisted.
No.1 only needs a light flush anyhow. If you have to flush twice for solid waste, you're not saving water. 1.2 gallons twice is 2.4 gallons. A 1.8 gallon flush with a low and heavy flush valve is better.
The smoothness of the glazing also makes a difference in how well it flushes solids.

I just replaced my 2007 Jacuzzi Era with a 1958 cadet in a white color. I don't have any pictures to show you. But I am thinking of replacing our other two with 1960's to 70's cadets. Did you get any new toilets
