The Incomparable 1927 Eureka Model 10

Presenting the 1927 Eureka model 10 with accessories. Sadly, I got this with a burned up armature, and pretty much the whole machine was raised to the ground - it was deplorable! But, I must add most fortuitously I had an armature from a model 9 in my possession, which proved to be indispensable. As a replacement it works rather well - as I hear no complaints from it. The armatures from a model 9 and 10 can work vice versa with the exception of removing the cooling fan for it to fit into a model 9, because it lacked that particular feature, and even so it still runs quite cool even after prolonged usage. It's truly a great machine, and I have a couple more pictures for you.

I have the same machine!

The only difference being mine has a Red & black bag, and no attachments!
It was a gift from a Vacuum Store years ago.
Unfortunately, I cannot use mine because it is missing on of those little rubber caps that fit over the carbon brushes on the exterior, You wouldn't happen to have a spare, would you?

 


Your Model 10 Puts mine top shame, though! you have a real beauty there!

I got you an early model 9 brass brush cap. It doesn't have the Bakelite protective layer - it didn't have that until the later model 9 anyway. Well, I tried it out and all works as it's supposed to. I have provided you with some photos so you can see first hand.

And you're so lucky to have the attachments with it! As Alex said, it puts mine to shame too! Actually, I'm not quite sure mine is a model 10. Although it looks identical to yours (other than yours being much nicer) I think it may be older. The only patent mentioned on the data plate on mine is "original Kenney patent Nov. 8, 1910." Based on that, and the next patent showing on yours is Apr. 11, 1916, should I assume that mine was made before Apr. 1916?
Would you happen to have a spare nozzle latch? The one on mine is broken and doesn't hold the nozzle in place. Other than that, about all I need to do to it is give it a good polishing and wire in the replacement cord that was given to me with it, and maybe repaint the handle.

The nozzles of anything earlier or later will not fit a model 10 such as the one you have. It is without a doubt a model 10 - it was made between 1927 thru 1931 when its production finally ended when the model 11 standard was first introduced - which in fact won many awards for being the best vacuum. I must freely admit I'm without explanation about the strangeness of that tag. I've found no other examples of it! About the nozzle latch, if I had another one I would give it to you, but sadly I do not. That looks to be the original screw - does it have the spring? If it does another one could be machined. I'm sorry, I wish I could be of more help. Calem

Sir, YOU Are simply amazing!

I couldn't believe you just had one "laying-around", I've had this thing sitting in the corner for YEARS- Now I can begin restoring it!

I'll send a message shortly-Now all I need to do is find a bag- This ancient one simply TEARS when you try to sew a small hole in the thing!

Liquid Stitch

When repairing an old or fragile bag paint the Liquid Stitch over a wide area evenly - all depending on how bad the bag is of course. If it's just a small hole you can use far less. I like to use canvas I've dyed black as a backer, and it will strongly - and I do mean strongly reinforce a rotten bag. You will have to turn the bag inside out to preform all the necessary repairs needed. The adhesive dries firm in about 30 min. and as it dries you will want to use your hands and a book or something to keep it flat and smoothed out. If you can't wash the bag be sure to vacuum out the inside of it - as to insure the best possible bond. I can't tell a lie - this STUFF really works!

Thank you for posting photos of your model 10. It helped me identify the Eureka model 10 I picked-up at a thrift store for $20.00. Hopefully, the spell of dog pee will go away after I give the bag a good hand washing.
