The hunt ends! (Marquis)

I've been on the hunt for a decent Marquis for years. This model was the first Electrolux i ever laid eyes on. My older sister and, later on, I did some cleaning for an elderly woman who has passed, and the vacuum she owned was a Marquis. So it kind of holds a special place in my mind.
This is actually the 3rd Marquis i've picked up in the last few months. The first one came from ebay and had a motor that arced heavily, it was returned to the seller. The 2nd also came from ebay It wasn't in the best shape cosmetically and while the motor ran better i could tell it would eventually need replacement. This Marquis came from my favorite shop It's plastic is a little yellowed but the motor runs strong and it seems like it was cared for. Strangely someone just gave it to them so i was able to get a good deal ($75) for everything. So now i finally have a nice marquis and it's matching power nozzle.

This last week, I picked up the same model, in addition to a few others.  I originally contacted this seller back in February.  He knew the motor was bad and was asking $100.  I made a standing offer of $25.  He contacted me out of the blue on Friday, we met on a rainy day  in a mall parking lot, and now its mine.


  


Mine still has the original 1987 hose, and all the parts, BUT, much like your initial experience, the vac motor is arcing badly and needs replacement or new brushes.


 


Fortunately, its in generally good condition and is worth the effort of motor repair or replacement.  If so, it will be my second Marquis..... but the hunt doesn't stop.

Thanks for sharing those pictures Erik, i could not remember what floor nozzle would have come with the Marquis...for some reason i thought it had the flip over style.

Yup those two, the Marquis, and the Grand Marquis, as far as i know, are all part of the 1521 model series. They are basically the same machine in different colors

Yes, the Diamond Jubilee was the first of the sleek metal bodied Electroluxs.  


Then came the Marquise, the Grand Marquis, the Legacy, the Ultralux, the Ultralux LX , the Ultralux Classic, and finally the last metal body, a rare and limited production: the Commemorative Edition.


 


I'm not sure what the criteria was for appointing either the standard floor brush vs. the flip duel surface floor brush.  Personally, I like the light weight floor brush.

Here is a picture of my Commemorative Edition. I bought this and according to the owner had less than 10 hours on it if that much and original box. Nice guy to deal with from Ebay. I actually use this quite often as one of my daily drivers. I don't use the woven hose, I bought a genuine vinyl hose to use with it.
