...or so this recent curb find says.

Have to take a couple of pictures tomorrow. I am totally beat.

Brown bag, reads "The Hoover Special".

Body very dark brown almost looks black, the front hood reads: "It beats as it sweeps as it cleans with positive agitation." and "The Hoover Special Model 60 previous model reconstructed at the Hoover factory."

Handle release is on the side on the hood.

Reconstructed? From the first batch of model 60's?

Hello All and jordan3399,
There is Thread No. 113 from 09-10-2006, Post No. 956 that could be of interest to you and in that same Thread is Post No. 968 which shows pictures of a Hoover Model 60 with the handle mounted handle release. I believe Hoover made the Model 60 from 1940 to 1942 with just 114,734 being made. It seems the handle release was a problem with the Model 60. The Hoover Model 61 was made after WWII from 1946 to 1950 with 389,826 being made. I believe both 60 and 61 were top of the Hoover line and expensive. The Hoover Model 28 was made from 1946 to 1950 and a whopping 2,278,594 were made.
I think any one owning a Hoover 60, 60 Special or 61 is lucky to have one. I own a Hoover 61 which is in fair to good shape and it took a long time to find it. Finding an original Hoover 60 I would think to be near impossible.
There are some really low volume Hoover vacuums out there with less than 8,000 being made.
Thank you for looking,
Pete

Thanks Phaeton. Just checked back on this and found your reply. It's older than I am, that's a first lately. LOL

Not sure what I'm doing with it yet, I recently went to all laminate flooring due to really bad allergies (how many vacuums can one justify owning for one area rug?)...but as my son said when he spotted it. That's too cool for the garbage truck.
