These came in a variety of scents, but I don't know what they all were. In the 925 I used to have, the cotton wadding inside was pale green and it smelled faintly of evergreen. This one, as I said, has a slight scent of roses.

The stuff inside is not wick material (like the Air-Wick room deoderizers) -- it looks more like really dense cotton wadding. Kinda like the stuff a tampon is made of.

That is quite interesting. I wonder if you put a few drops of pure alcohol on the dried up stuff inside if it would restore some of the smell, or try a few drops of water first? You know how they loved alcohol in everything back then

Charlie...

I did not even notice that the lines were missing! They were originally painted black and yes they are VERY easy to buff off of the machine. My 800 has the black badge. Even the orange badge on my 750 is different than the orange badge on my 700. The newer badges are "arched" and smooth where as the 700 orange badge is flat with the letters raised. I am not sure if this is clear in the photo. I still think that since yours is a higher serial number and later in the run that the badge was replaced after the machine was "buffed". I have never seen an orange badged 800. I have seen the red badged 800's though! That is another story!

Very nice, Charles!! I really love those older Hoovers...they just speak to me differently than the newer Convertibles, ESPECIALLY the plastic ones. Nice idea with the Sharpie!

BTW: What is that wooden box with 3 tubes sticking out of it? Reminds me of a Nixie Tube clock, but I guess it'd have to have at least another tube added to it. I guess it is some kind of amplifier? Just curious... :-)
