The first Electrolux I ever saw..

My first Electrolux was my Mom’s vacuum she had before I was born..it was a model S and was her Mother’s that she gave her in 1960 when Mom and Dad married. They still have the Model S in the basement of their first house they bought in 1966. It is quite dented and I can tell the motor is loose and needs a good clean up job. I ran it over the holidays (2019) to clean the basement stairs. Time for a new hose though as it’s the third one and a braided one. The poor thing has seen better days and Dad uses it to suck up sawdust in the basement as it has the cloth bag. In the early 70s, Mom had the Electrolux man, who’s daughter I went to high school with, come out to the house to sell her a new one as we had bought all new yellow carpet and Mom thought it was time to upgrade to the power nozzle. The model S did not have the power nozzle outlet so she had to get a new machine, she bought the Model L in blue with the “blue arrow” power nozzle, we replaced the hose in the early 80s and the power nozzle and sheath in 86 or 87 with a Diamond Jubilee era power nozzle and it still runs beautifully and was taken to their second home in 1990 where it is used there regularly when they are there. Interestingly the Silverado era braided hose they have on it has not lost suction! I used it on a visit last summer. I remember the Electrolux salesman selling Mom the Model L...as a kid fascinated with vacuums, Mom said I could stay and watch but I had to sit on the stairs as our staircase overlooked our foyer. As a pre schooler, I watched patiently and listened intensely, probably better than in any class my entire life! Ha! My Mom’s mom (Grandmother) got new Electrolux machines periodically but I remember her 1205 and being in the bedroom with her while she vacuumed and the bag door opened and the machine shut off and the bag light came on. What fun! She also had a blue Model L with the cord winder which Mom did not opt for on hers as her house was two story and she wanted an Electrolux on both levels. My Grandmother also had a Golden Jubilee and an Olympia after that. My Mother has the Olympia to this day and her sister had the Golden Jubilee after my Grandmother, then her other sister who inherited Grandmas house passed away and the house was dismantled...not sure if the Golden Jubilee is is still in the family but my Aunt got new carpet and bought a new Aerus Lux Legacy so she may have traded the Golden Jubilee. She passed away in 2006 and one of my cousins likely has the Lux Legacy and maybe the Golden Jubilee if it didn’t die or get traded for the Lux Legacy. We are an Electrolux family. Too many to count!
