Wow! That sounds like a scummy store! I would not do business with them again! Poor communication, no calls or questions to check if you still wanted to repair it, or anything! Just poof, gone!
I got scammed in the same way with a (now former) friend who said he could fix my laptop and recover my data. He lied to me for 2 years when I emailed him every 2 weeks, and then he just said "nope I threw it out to the recycler". And just like that, a laptop that cost me $2,000 just 3 years before was gone. I never told him to throw it away. I was very angry and he never talked to me again after that and changed all his emails so I couldn't even contact him anymore.
