What,my friends is the deepest cleaning vacuum OF ALL TIME,in your humble opinion,on carpets overall ?

This may be a surprize-but the "humble" Riccar "Superlite"Got more SAND out of my carpets than anyting elese-next would be the Royals and Kirbys.Seriously-when I was using the Riccar I could hear the sand wooshing up the bag fill tube-and you feel the bag-its a sandbag.and to top it off when I first moved into my house I am in now-the former owners must not have vacuumed much or tracked in lots of the sandy dirt we have here.I used my Royal 4000 metal upright-the 10A one-and I had to replace the bag twice-filled up 2 and a half bags of foot smelly sand.Picked up about 2 bags worth in a Royal metal canister.Brought both vacs with me as "Move in vacuuming"The amount of sand I get now is much less.

Hmmm tough choices
1. 2-position Hoover Convertible... very few machines clean as deep!
2. Any Quadreflex agitator Hoover cleaner(Concept, Celebrity, Dimension 1000) Not much gets by these either!
3. Older(1970's Eureka's) Also excellent performers, when adjusted properly
From todays models I would say the Hoover Conquest is good, and agree with Rex's choices of the Royal and the Riccar..

I bought this one a few years ago. It is a bagless that has two different dirt bins, I guess a Dyson ripoff before the Dyson's arrived in the US. It cleans relly well. I took it to my folks house and cleaned the famous green rug (RIP) and i filled the bin almost three times! Finally my Mom said "stop pulling dirt out of my carpet!" They were discontinued by Eureka.
I think the older Dial A Nap Eurekas do a great job! You can just hear the dirt go up into the bag! How many of us has changed a F&G bag where it felt like a sack of sugar?

btw, anyone remember the 3.5 amp Eureka commercial vacuum workout i posted about on AW.org? i took my 5amp Guardsman (Convertible) to work and did the SAME area. i fitted the Guardsman with a genuine Hoover 70s cloth shakeout bag. it beat the pants off the Eureka! the extra 1.5 amps combined with the stiffer brushes on the Hoover agitator made a LOT of difference.

Hoover 2-position Convertible and 70's Eureka 2-position for me! While I don't have one (yet), I've heard good things about the Concept as well.

High performance Convertibles, Concept Ones, VERY Well maintained Windtunnels all do really well....
The 7 amp Sanitaires are almost too powerful.
The Riccar Radiance, and the All metal Royals clean incredibly well.

I too am also amazed by my Riccar Supralite everytime I use it! It's baffling!

The 10A Royal metal uprights are too powerful as well.The 10A motor doesn't do much better than the 7A ones.And the 7A ones are quieter.The 10A one spins the brush too fast.I would love to have one of those "Certified" Pile lifter vacuums-Carpet cleaning companies use these-they have a HUGE 4" diameter brushroll turned by a half hp induction motor-then the machine has a 7-10 a direct suction motor.would love to see how much sand or other one of these digs up!!There was one at the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital" here-was ALMOST 30days-If it was there over 30days would have gotten to buy it.The owner picked it up at the last minute.It had A Royal Upright suction motor.the brushroll in that thing is HUGE-almost the size of the reel in a reel lawnmower.the pile lifter vacs even look like walk behind lawn mowers.

In my humble opinion, and on a non-wall-to-wall carpet, you cannot beat the Hoover 150 for cleaning. With four beater bars (and two brush strips), the 150 beats the heck out of the rug, removing virtually all the sand and grit.
Next, I would say any Eureka with a Vibra-groomer 1 brush roller. Eureka had more airflow than Hoover's convertible series (and a better paper bag arrangement) which allowed the Eureka (F & G style) to deep clean rugs.
My royal PowerCast is an excellent carpet vacuum. Timeless design and wonderful performance, plus Hepa filtration.
My friend Derreck bought a $1200 Miele Capricorn S-5 and used it on his carpets in his brand new apartment several times. He used his old Eureka ESP (from 1980 - with VG2) on the carpet as a lark. You should have seen all the sand it got out that the Miele did not. I told Derreck 'it has to beat, as it sweeps, as it cleans' to REALLY get the rug clean. Miele doesn't beat. Eureka does. Eureka beat quarts of unwholesome sand and filth from his rugs in his new apartment.

I have two royal Powercast-They cannot compare to the Royals,Hoover Beaterr bars,and Kirbys.The bag in the Powercast is poor.and the machine occasionally tripped 15A breakers while I was using it.It performs-but is heavy and inefficient.I would like to see a better bag system for the Powercast.Direct air Vacs that draw less power work better.

I can go along with the Direct air vacuum entry as well.More efficient airpaths-mean smaller motor to do the same or better job than clean air machines.The only clean air machines I have used that "work" are the Royal Powercast,Sebo X4,and the Lux style uprights.
