Dropped by the ReStore on a whim after work today. The Manager Jill says' Oh, I was hoping you'd show up this week...I have something out back for you"

Well, I almost blew my teeth out with surprise!!! $20.

The one red CanLux 80 series model that has eluded me...the 1963-67 ZB88 Version Two with the wraparound bumper strip, in super shape with original cord & bulb stopper, a wand, a red hose and the Floor/carpet nozzle. Hardly a scratch on it and one shallow dent.

Before loading it into it's parking spot in Eluxious Towers I just had to take a family photo including the Handikit and accessories supplied with all the cranberry models.

Left to right, ZB88 V2, matching BX-10 Floor and Rug Conditioner, ZB86 V2 - 1963-67 and the ZB88 V1 - 1957-63 without bumpers or PN socket in the handle.

Me so happy.

Storage Chest Seats sidebar...

On the back page of the ZB88 version one manual the selection of chests available. Studying those compound hinges and the canted top I believe this is what my later gold one would have looked like on top. I am very tempted to rebuild and re-upholster it in the red & eggshell diamond pattern, since jaundice yellow is among my least favorite colours...unless it's a Compact, of course.

Wow! I am very happy for you. What a great display that will
make. I have the 88 without the bumpers and the power Nozzle
connection. Got it from Doug in Mose Jaw. It is just like the
one my Aunt had in the 60's when they lived in Queenston, ONT. I just love to hear the air rush, when using the carpet
tool, well actually any of them. They are a great series of
lux for the time.
Norm

Yes Norm, it can't be repeated too often just how hushed quiet they are in comparison with their USA counterparts of the same era and pull 20" more suction!

Many of my tools were supplied by Doug, too.

Note to Doug - you needn't find me a version two 88 now. But a ZB83, red late model telescopic electric PN wand and/or red PN can stay on the wishlist. LOL

Dave

And thank you too, Terry. It is always a special pleasure to find a much sought after addition to the Electrolux line, or any special vacuum sweeper that crosses our path. I'm so looking forward to the semi-completion of the Attic Vacuum Lounge, which is still many weeks away what with 4 more shows going into Tech and Dress Rehearsals next week being the principal claim on my free time. The coming late May/early June heatwave drives me on to stay off the couch...

Have you found yourself a Roll-Easy yet?

Dave

wow

good find Dave. it pays to have look outs.I have come into a lot of vacuums that way, wen people know we like old vacuums thay keep us in mind.

Chris

Cranberry-rific!

Congratulations, Dave, on that excellent find. I always thought the green 89 was my favorite old Electrolux, but when I found the beautiful red 88, I think I found a new number one. Like yourself, I'm on the hunt to complete the set with the PN I and the electric telescopic wand. I also have to "backdate" my collection with the version 1 86 and 88, as well as the 83.

Other than the cosmetic changes, do the version 2 86 and 88 have different motors than the version 1? I think Doug mentioned once that the 89 came out with a slightly different motor that caused a lot of problems, so I wondered about the 86 and 88.

Looks great now with the now near complete set. I think I have another flip over floor tool in red.

My mother bought one of those Tan/yellow bench storage seats at a garage sale for $1. It was the most damn-ugly thing in the living room, but she used it to store her yarn when she was knitting and crocheting so the grandkids wouldn't get into it when they came.

Yes Dave, when some friends were down last year they were at a vacuum shop in Tampa and they found a Roll Easy for me. It doesn't have any tools so I am working on that. Right now the machine is in Spokane,Wa awaiting surgery by our very own Mark Turbyfill.

Oh Terry, that is wonderful news - I was hesitant to ask, it being your dream machine desire. Now glad I did as the answer is 'yes' for you. Knowing you only through the Forum and how highly you are spoken off by others I just knew Karma would smile upon you soon.

I know how much hope & prayer & wishful thinking go in to answering the profile question "What are your dream machines yet to be found?". On a good day all things seem possible, on a bad day such wishes can seem ridiculously impossible. Yet by keeping such wishes on the back burner and reminding everyone we know, patience, a virtue as they say, is it's own reward.

Been through it myself it seems too many times (Roll-Easy versions 1 & 2, Modern Hygiene, Singer S-2, Hoover Aerodyne 51, etc and now the CanLux 88) but what a pleasure to be able to replace one dream machine on our dream list with another...and another...

It's good to have a well-matured patient collector's attitude tempered with hope & enthusiasm.

Nice E-lux collection. Here's my 2nd 1205 e-lux I got from eBay (later one than my parents' Lux)

Dave

I have always wanted one of those cranberry Luxs. I remember visiting the Electrolux store (back when they were really Electrolux) in Van Nuys California in the early 80s. That was one of my regular haunts along with the Kirby store on Van Nuys Blvd. I walked in and there was one of those reddish machines on the floor and my heart almost stopped beating. It must have been in for repairs from a Canada transplant. I knew all the Luxs and had never seen that one before. I have since found out that it was Canadian and have never forgotten it and have always wanted one. Congratulations - beautiful.

Fred

PS - I am gathering packing materials to send you the item we discussed. Have patience - you will get it.

Now you need the B20 shampooer to go with your set too

Yes Doug, I do. Having lost track I raced upstairs to see if I had the red one but no...Got the green one, yellow one, slate grey one and the brown one, tho

Perfectly fine, Fred. If ya get delayed a few more weeks you can just have Pete toss it in the trunk at the Convention...

Dave

Congrats Dave

Beautiful find. I love the look of the Canadian Electroluxes and would love to find one someday.

Congrats.
