Picked this up at a local 2nd hand market yesterday. SO pleased with it. It didn't come with any tools and needs a clean and a replacement top cord hook, but otherwise, it works brilliantly. More info to follow and post-clean up pics

For a Kirby, it's very cheap! This is a 1999 model and there is a 1979 Tradition in the 2nd hand shop not far from me and they want £79 for it!

Not bad at all, Garlands! The beauty with a lot of second hand places is that they have no idea what they're doing ...that's also a downside with a lot of places :P

does anyone know if the G5 dusting tools will fit the G6? I know that the hoses are different, but will the tools fit the G6 hose? From what I know, they're standard 32mm, right? Does the same apply to the shampoo attachment?

All Kirby tools will fit all Kirby hoses, from the 505 to the Sentria, the only differences between the G series is the G3 & 4 had a different fancase gasket to the G5 onwards, so a G5 hose will fit your G6, as will the tools and the Rug Reno. kit... :)

The G3 & 4 used the old-style setup with a small rubber seal for the nozzle fitted on the fancase, and a larger rubber seal fitted on the hose-end for the hose, but the G5 introduced the "Unigasket", which did away with the two separate seals on the G5 to Sentria... :)

You can use G3&4 hoses with later Kirbys, you just have to pull the rubber seal out first, and the rug reno. kit will fit right out of the box...

Post cleanup pic.

I sent the machine off to ELI distribution for a service. It's had a new brushroll, fan and mini emptor. It was supposed to have had a full polish as well, but I ended up having to do that myself as it was still a bit manky when I got it back. I've ordered a new top cord hook from eBay and also managed to possibly hunt down a set of tools for it.

I once bought a pack of bags for my LegendII from ELI distribution when they were under another name on ebay sometime in I think 2006, then later I found I could have gotten the same bags cheaper from Kent Oyler in Utah.... :S

I'm surprised that they call that a "service", I'd have expected them to replace missing, worn & damaged parts, aswell as giving it a polish if they had been ordered to, not exactly good publicity for them... :&#92

If I were you I'd ask for a partial refund as they only did a partial job, trade descriptions act and all that...

I might just do that. He called me and quoted me £161 to replace the emptor, brushroll, fan and wheels. It wasn't until I said no that he offered to replace them all with parts from a donor machine for £60. The machine was also returned with a dirty belt lifter that I had to give a good clean up when it came back. He also didn't offer to replace the bumper which is slightly damaged on one side. I remember the Kirby guy literally getting our Legend 2 looking new when Mum's was serviced.

Still, I'm pleased it's had an internal clean up and the parts needed have been replaced.

what a bargain!

congrats to this nice machine.
Whether it is a bit nonchalant what comes to the aluminium shine or whether you can manage to get it polished up: You need the tools. Try to get at least the renovator/shampooer thingy, the zip brush and the tool caddy.

The G6 is one of the most effective Kirbys around (IMHO even outcleaning the Sentria as that one does a lesser good job on crumbs, grains and sand = particle based grime). Besides I just love the black colour pattern, fried pumpkin (Sentria) just isn't up to my liking, but that is a matter of personal taste.

Have a heart and get it some polish, the G6 is one of the most modern and truest friends you can have.
A shy beast, if you will. Try to get it complete. (please, you won't regret it).

I do have to say that the G6 is pretty easy to polish, when I polished up my G5, it was all just flat surfaces for the most part, a doddle when using the Handi-Butler kit with one of my other Kirbys, takes a bit of practice though, but it's easy when you know how... :)

And yeah, that description of their quote is somewhat dodgy, I'm glad I've only ever bought from them once, don't think I'd like to do so ever again, especially given feedback from someone else's experience of them... :&#92
