I "was" staying home to work on the Riccar I found curbside last week. Instead I was talked into going to an auction...first one in 10+ years that I've been to. Estate/household goods.

No bids on this one and it was on it's way to the trash. So I put my bid in on the last call and spent my two quarters and dragged the sad looking thing home. Not sure what I've done yet, this is my first older Electrolux ever.

nice, looks like a Silverado.

It should clean up well.

Cleaning the top cover will make a huge difference, and is easily done.

The top cover comes off easily (a few screws), and is modular (several pieces)

You can take it off, wash the plastic parts, and polish the metal..

Here is my similar Super J top cover in a state of disassembly.

"Older" Electrolux ... Oy vey. When I first met John Lucia in 1991 we joked that one day there would be people running around collecting Eureka Bravos and Hoover Elites and Royal Dirt Devils and considering them "vintage." And here we are... Makes a guy feel pretty old.......

Remember Charles...

The cut off date for vintage was considered by most of us to be 1960!!We actually discussed this at a convention back then, I still have very little use for anything newer than the early 70s, I just cant get excited over something as noisy and cheap as a Hoover Elite or a Bravo...LOL

LOL. You're only as old as you feel, I'm no spring chicken here either anymore. I think all the crud on this one made it look older to me than I thought.

Early 80's from what I've been researching then? I remember that era well, just not familiar with the Electrolux. We had an old second-hand Kirby when I was a teenager and we were lucky to have that at the time.

Sticker on the top says Silverado Deluxe. PN4A power nozzle from what I can see.

I'm learning, once upon a time I used to play with air-cooled VW's, now I've switched to vacuums. : ) This one should be fun to clean up. Thanks for the tip blknblu!

Well,  the forum for contemporary vacuums states "less than 20 years old"

1996 does not seem that long ago

That would make 1976, <span style="font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde';">40 years ago

Score!

For fifty cents, you definitely made a score. That was the last of the classic metal canisters. It'll look great all cleaned up. They're excellent, durable machines and not that hard to work on. I have a 1205 and a Super J and am quite fond of them both. If it were mine, I would just media blast the top shell of that power nozzle, polish that aluminum up and let it shine! I always thought it was a shame that Electrolux chose to start painting the PN2 and PN4 to match the machines with which they were paired. It just makes the scratches show up worse, especially the 'Olympia' brown ones. I've got a polished aluminum PN2 for my Super J and I love the way it gleams.

Regarding the Silverado, was there ever a time they were offered with a PN-5? I recently came THIS CLOSE to acquiring a Silverado Deluxe brand new in box. Another relative beat me to it. Oh the humanity....

Electrolux

PN 2/4-The PN 2 top was never painted when new by Elux. The PN 4 was polished, then brown, last gray.
Silverado-At different times the Silverado had 2 handle styles,2 motors,2 PNs,(4 & 5)and introduded the new wand latch system.

awe that's not a sad vacuum, that's a beautiful vacuum under all that dirt. Heck what a bargain!!!!

This was an earlier Silverado as it still has the PN 4 power nozzle so I'm saying this is 1984ish.

If I'm not mistaken but I believe an ex elux salesman told me he quit selling them when this model came out because this is the model that broke the $500 mark and he didn't want to sell a $500 vacuum.

Edgar, a friend once commented on how heavy/ solid mine was! I told them I could throw it at an intruder, take them out and it would still be fine! He only said, yep!

"broke the $500 mark"

I knew an Electrolux salesman, now dead, who left Elux in the 50s to sell Buicks when the price went over $69.75 and he knew they could not be sold at higher prices! He came back to Elux and also drove a 74 Buick LeSabre until he died.
