Experiences are important.
At one time in the distant past, I made a really fancy website with a forum and all sort of nonsense. I set up a very nice Bulletin thing (which is why I'm fairly certain. that's what this is) and it was fun, until everyone on it jumped ship to use Facebook groups. Oh well, but its been a strange trip to the past, never thought I'd find myself on a vacuum collecting forum with this software again after that!
I figured it was a new vBulletin version, it's hard to know. Would have been hard to know on my site too, as I paid the extra and had all the copyright stuff removed so no one knew. And from my end as just a member it's also so similar I wouldn't know! But its nice, I don't feel like I'm having to learn or adjust to something new, just kind of remember how it worked. This is XenForo, which was created years ago by techs who worked with vBulletin. I've worked with vB 3.2 and 5.0, and Xenforo for about 10 years. It's a bit cleaner than vB in my opinion.
It's just a racket that is run so the company makes more money. Like all those companies that allegedly remove your information off the web, it doesn't work. All they do is send a request to the data broker to remove the info - which the data broker of course will not do and just bin the message, and there is no legal obligation for them to comply with it. So you pay all this money to a service that....does nothing. And then the government just sells your data out anyway. The same week I got my drivers license, I got phone calls from insurance companies that "somehow" knew I was at the DMV and wanted to know if I'd like to subscribe to their company's plans.Pay extra, ridiculous. What does that have to be a thing.
