In 1957, Lewyt released the model 107 Big Wheel canister vacuum cleaner - with the world's first Power Nozzle. They called it a Motorized Beater Sweeper.

The cord that connected the machine to the power nozzle laid on the floor as was "in the way". But, to their defense, they didn't know any better. No one had ever had a power nozzle before on a canister vacuum cleaner.

The power nozzle didn't use a belt, instead it used gears to transmit the power from the motor to the brush roller. The brush roller was tiny in diameter, and the opening was very narrow. Still, for oriental rugs, it did well.

The 107 did have Lewyt's famous Power Dial that allowed the operator to dial any suction level they wanted.

I've only seen ONE of these models in my life, and it belonged to the late Mike Hays. It was passed on to The Vacuum Cleaner Museum from Hans Craig, and I'm very proud to display its unique design to the public who visits the museum.

innovators went with an upgrade idea, but later,
after obvious consumer input (or a competitor's
tweaking) arrived at a subsequent perfected design.
Premier's hand vac is a good example of this
innovative "evolutionary process".

I have a few of the Holland Electro models that used the Lewyt Design.
Unfortunately ours didn't have a Pn

Great catch Tom. I have one but don't have the power nozzle for it. (Incidentally that hose is from a Golden Lewyt - Model 90).

That hose is actually the correct one for that model, however, after 30 years of three packs of Newports per day, the nicotine has discolored it severely. Everything in Mike's house was covered in a layer of nicotine. The Eureka Self Propelled from the mid 1980's that I got from his estate had a cloth outer bag that was so discolored from all the nicotine - it took three washings in Persil to get it clean. Everything smelled like an ash tray. I still can't get the cords clean.

I know we spoke about this but I'm still a bit confused. My 107 is hammertone blue rather than a solid blue like yours. My power nozzle has the belt system rather than the gear and mine doesn't have the same label. Let me see if I can find a photo to upload. Be right back

Your latch for the wand is on the backside, where mine is on the front. Your nozzle has edge cleaning slots, mine does not. Even the color of the machine is different.
I would guess your model was made later in the run. Even the label on the top of your power nozzle is completely different.
Mine seems to be the earliest example I've ever seen.

I'm sure this is the first of the run. They did make that model 107 for two years, so I'm sure the R & D department made running changes along the way.
