Swedish Electrolux Commercial vacuums

well Ronni (it is a Z 74, not a Z75), however very little details change. First : model Z73, the cleanere at the origine of this post was from early to mi 70s, made i white/brown; model Z 74 was made until around 1984, model Z 75 was the last one made until 1989. they are all not only LARGE vacuum cleaners but also very powerful in terms of suction, airflow etc. as they used two large, quiet, powerful and "relaxed" vacuum motors creating enormous cleaning power. hoses, wands and tools larger in diameter made them useful for cleaning large surfaces and pick up larger debris. I used a Z 75 once and I was shocked at how powerful it was, though it wasn't certainly a cleaner I'd ever use at home, just because of its size. I hope my z 74 arrives soon so I can put it in good shape and share with you hopefully some good and detailed pictures!
Many greetings
Tommy

My Electrolux Z75

I read this conversation and I have to put my video of my Z75. It´s very powerful vacuum but quite rare because UZ930 was more common since 1980´s. Z73 introduced 1963 I think and UZ920 1975 (almost the same than UZ930 but with metal lid) These vacuums made also with Volta brand (like UZ73, UZ74 and UZ75, but I have never seen even a picture of them)

Z73 and Z74 one problem was the rotating hose connection because hose clips cracked when you pulled around the heavy machine.

I found this interesting video "Electrolux vacuum cleaners 50 years 1913-1963". It´s made by Technical Museum of Sweden.

But anyway, congratulations on nice find Tommy!!

Best Regards
Markus

Hi Marcus:

Neat old video! Thanks for sharing it. 1963 makes more sense for the model 73. It was sold in Canada but was replaced with the US model CB around 1965 so it had to be around previous to that.

Wish I could find the rest of the parts for mine.

Doug

Well - I finally managed to get a set of wands for my Z73. Still need the floor brush, dusting brush and crevice tool. If I am right the crevice tool is the same colour as the small nozzle as the floor brush probably is but the dusting brush may have been either that colour or a grey. Any ideas anyone?

Oops - just answered on of my own questions. The floor brush should be grey so the dusting brush probably was too. Found the floor brush in the video Marcus posted earlier and it definitely appears to be grey as well as being the same brush that was used on the model 33 (except that was black).

Here's a page from a 1969 Australian Automatic Floor Polisher manual advertising its commercial canister. (Current eBay listing):

Spares

Hi everyone! Coming late to the party, I guess. The reason is that I just received this vintage vacuum cleaner (Electrolux Z73) left in a shed all dusty and a bit neglected. It works! It is very quiet, even when you start the second motor. The only problem is that the "hose" is broken. Can someone assist me in fixing it? I don't think I can get spare parts. Thanks! Glad to know this forum!

Hi Santiago, that is a very nice Electrolux Z73 you were given. Shouldn't take much to put that back into mint condition. :-)

As for getting your hose repaired, Electrolux AB in North America won't be much help to you. They pulled out of North America in 2017, because their Hungarian made canisters were pretty much garbage quality - consumers were fed up with them, and so were dealers. This was also in a time when Miele was starting to wipe out A LOT of smaller canister vacuum brands, like Rowenta, Zelmer and Lindhaus - they simply found they couldn't compete with Miele's offerings for the quality of product they were offering at similar price points, so like Electrolux AB they pulled out entirely.

What I would do is cut the hose material off the metal machine end and off the hose handle. Take both those pieces into a vac shop that repairs Shop Vacs, Commercial Canisters and commercial cleaning equipment. Since this was a commercial canister, the hose would be wider than average, and the average vac shop may not be able to source generic hose material in the same diameter, but a shop dealing with commercial equipment probably runs into this problem occasionally with commercial clients with older canisters - particularly those that would be used for factory work.

Best of luck getting a decent hose for your Electrolux Z73 and the restoration!

Congrats, Matt, and welcome to Vacuumland. I wish you success in your hose quest and look forward to seeing some of your after photos when you've restored it.

________

All,

I used a database to discover that the Model Z73 debuted circa 1962. I was unable to view any documents; although some could possibly be viewed in-person through inter-library loan or pursuit of online uploads. Synopses of the material follow (excluding models E O, Z109, Z71 and Z75, which produced no search results):

Attached:

1. Amazon listing for the dust bags; referring to models E 0, Z109, Z71, Z73, Z74 & Z75

2. Electrolux (Canada) Ltd. logomark from 1950 (which appeared when I clicked on the Z33 entry; so would take for granted that it's a color advertisement)
