Vacuum, not Vacuume

It was me that inadvertantly used (the French - smile) Vacuume in my thread title. That was an error. BTW, it has two switches, on/off and hi/lo.

A rebranded machine perhaps? even so I dunno what it actually is, i'm sure the American members of the forum can shed some light on it.

I have a vacuum that looks identical with the name "Remington." It has a motor that is reversible. It is missing one of its runners. Is this, by any chance manufactured by Clements Mfg.?

Bare Floor Nozzle

David,I am not sure how you distinguish a "bare floor" nozzle but have included a pic of the other side.

Manufacturer?

Karl, where do you propose I look to see who manufactured it? Other than the Super House Maid badging, there are no other external plates or identification.

There should be some sort of data plate riveted to the vacuum, usually on the bottom, that has the model and serial number, voltage and amps ratings. It might say who manufactured it.

Did you have any luck finding the manufacturer. I have one found in an estate clean out.
Please give me the patent number (typically beginning with 'D' for 'Design'), and I'll do a search. In another thread, a poster mentioned "House Maid" as being Spiegel's label and showed a catalog page with a House Maid upright; although Spiegel would most likely not have been the manufacturer.

The vacuum is a Cadillac. Cadillac made the first two speed tank type vacuum cleaner motor. That was also made under the name admiral, Firestone, and good housekeeping, Clements, who made Cadillac vacuum cleaners, was a prolific private labeler. The 1946 consumer reports showed three different vacuums made by Clements, under three different brand names, with three different prices, separated by $20 even though the vacuums were identical, but for their brand.

Here are online photos from a sales listing of a Firestone model F-50 tank type for comparison. Interesting that Clements omitted its name from the ratings plate. I imagine that many customers would have presumed that Firestone made the cleaner, but it excludes "Manufactured by" and only states the company name and "Made in USA" like ActivePure's Aerus Lux Canadian-designed vacs.

That is actually a Kingston, made by Douglas. It was also called a Coronado, or a monitor. Depending on where it was sold. Firestone just had their name put on it for sale in their stores. They also did the same thing with Apex as a manufacturer. As well as Clements, the maker of Cadillac.

Thanks for the education, Tom.
