Sunbeam Vista can opener and Farberware wok

Here are a few pictures of the Sunbeam Vista can opener and the Farberware #303 wok I recently got. The Sunbeam is a very cool looking and well made can opener and it has a very robust looking motor inside. Seems to have some serious torque when opening a can! I opened it up when it arrived in the mail and was impressed that everything looked in great condition, including the gears. I am guessing it is from the mid to late 60s, based on the styling. Does anyone else use an electric can opener these days?

I haven't used the Farberware wok yet but am looking forward to trying it out. It looks like its from the mid 70s and wasn't used a whole lot. It's a 1000 watt appliance with the detachable control plug with temperatures that range from keep warm to 425 degrees, which should be good for stir frying. I haven't seen many electric woks in stores lately.

I remember those can openers, I think early 60s, but you could be right

I found an old ad online for one but I couldn't find a date. It was $17.50 then. I wonder if any can openers today would last this long.

It really was! I speculated 1963 as the date it was for sale and at $17.50 then, that would be the equivalent of paying $139.96!

Sunbeam Vintage Can Opener

Sunbeam sold a model that cut the rim of the can during the mid-1960s I was wondering if anyone here has or had such a unit. It appeared to be a very clean design. It is model HCO

Hi Cajun.

While I haven't used that rim cutting can opener, it does look neat and stands rather tall. I would assume it would also be of high quality like other Sunbeam products of that era, provided it works as it should.

I have two the first is a Krups electric and the other is a Good Cooks manual powered, both leave gaps in opening cans after a couple of years of use. I prefer this type of opener because they rarely get dirty and a more sanitary method of opening a can.

Yeah, the newer can openers just aren't made as well as the older ones. I imagine the Sunbeam will last many more years. I don't mind the traditional electric openers, its very easy to wipe off with a rag or a antibacterial wipe.
