I was considering getting a Henry or commercial Numatic for a while, when my friend mentioned his neighbour had a bunch of them which were bought as a job lot and she had given him one for free and would likely not want a lot for one. This was good news as they were going for a fair bit on eBay and I couldn't really afford to waste £60+ on a vacuum cleaner I didn't need.
Anyhow, turns out she had 3 left. They were all beat up and filthy and only one was working but after a short discussion she gave me all three of them completely free! They are all different models so I will document them below.
Henry #1
Original model (800w, 1995) with red solid font and black wheels. This is the most beat up machine, presumably as it's the oldest. The only thing wrong with it was the plug had been wired up badly and the live wire had found its way out of the terminal. The suction on this one is tremendous considering it's only 800w - doesn't seem to have any less power than the 1200w models!
Henry #2
Early 2000's? model with the push power switch and Hi/Lo selector on the back. Tripped the power breaker when last tested. I discovered the problem was the power switch - for some strange reason the live and neutral wires coming in from the cable reel are both positioned adjacent to eachother on the switch. Inside the switch the pins are so close they had began arcing whenever the machine was plugged in. Can anyone explain why they would have wanted to a) switch both live AND neutral on/off and b) use a switch where they are so close together they are guaranteed to arc?!
Henry #3
Late 2000s model with the power and Hi/Lo switches on the top behind the handle and the single exhaust. Nothing wrong with this one other than being covered in paint and scuffed all over. Seemed very quiet when tested, even on high.
