I was considering getting a Henry or commercial Numatic for a while, when my friend mentioned his neighbour had a bunch of them which were bought as a job lot and she had given him one for free and would likely not want a lot for one. This was good news as they were going for a fair bit on eBay and I couldn't really afford to waste £60+ on a vacuum cleaner I didn't need.

Anyhow, turns out she had 3 left. They were all beat up and filthy and only one was working but after a short discussion she gave me all three of them completely free! They are all different models so I will document them below.

Henry #1
Original model (800w, 1995) with red solid font and black wheels. This is the most beat up machine, presumably as it's the oldest. The only thing wrong with it was the plug had been wired up badly and the live wire had found its way out of the terminal. The suction on this one is tremendous considering it's only 800w - doesn't seem to have any less power than the 1200w models!

Henry #2
Early 2000's? model with the push power switch and Hi/Lo selector on the back. Tripped the power breaker when last tested. I discovered the problem was the power switch - for some strange reason the live and neutral wires coming in from the cable reel are both positioned adjacent to eachother on the switch. Inside the switch the pins are so close they had began arcing whenever the machine was plugged in. Can anyone explain why they would have wanted to a) switch both live AND neutral on/off and b) use a switch where they are so close together they are guaranteed to arc?!

Henry #3
Late 2000s model with the power and Hi/Lo switches on the top behind the handle and the single exhaust. Nothing wrong with this one other than being covered in paint and scuffed all over. Seemed very quiet when tested, even on high.

Good finds and for free - well - who could complain!

It is usual for Henry vacuums to be a bit rough around the edges, but that in itself is testiment to the industrial build they have.

How many domestic oriented vacuum cleaners do you see covered in paint and generally "beat up" that still work as intended? Not many I'd say.

Snapped a photo of the three of them today, lined up in order of age. Particularly observant folks may notice the red button missing from Henry #2 - I haven't replaced the switch yet!

What a nice line-up!

They all look to be in good condition with the exception of the typical stress marks where the front castors are fixed to the body.

I used to love my Xtra. Normal henry obv but the turbobrush was great on my mums carpet! Sadly after 2 years a stone smashed the fan turbine to pieces and the machine now resides in rural Devon with a normal floor tool on

Your right, I could! This was back when they were new and expensive as a spare part though. Our flats too small for Henry, I have Henry Hound waiting for a bigger place to use it, but we have the Miele now and it is nicer to use in so many ways... Decisions decisions

Turbo brush...

I have been using a Wessel Werk turbo brush (TK 270 - its the one that came with "Henry Plus") with the three Henries and that works really well. It feels just like an upright to use!

I think when carpets are involved, the turbo brush really is a must. I have always been an upright lover really, and have always lived in a house full of carpets so using a plain floor tool seems ineffective to me. The only cylinders I'm really fond of are Numatic's machines - I like the larger NV models the best, but the cord rewind on the NVR200/Henry is a really nice feature.

I'm tempted to get a Henry feel left out on here lol I want a new one with the docking station and 3D face and most places still seem to be selling the old ones still so getting a good deal is looking difficult.

Thanks, But I want it complete and all clean, i might buy a bnib one from a pet shop we go to, they have random stuff too for sale! Henry xtra being one of them

Thanks Joe,

I had seen that site before but it's nice to hear that you have personally used them before as I'm always a bit weary of using new sites for the first time I need to wait till pay day and then make my mind up lol

Tayyab Wilko had Henry Xtra's for £120 last week but now out of stock

Joe you should get a Huggable Henry off Amazon how sweet lol
