Hi there,

Went into town yesterday, on the way back in, I stopped at one of my thriftng territories. There I layed my eyes upon a very nice Compact C9. It still has its original electric hose with the pistol grip, unsplit, and still has its original chrome painted cap on the back end of the canister.

But the mystery is, the center of the hose, is yellow. At first I thought it was just very faded, but then I noticed, that the cuff on the machine end, and the pistol grip were not faded like that. Nor were the plastic cord tracks on the back of the wand, and neither was the powerhead cord, nor even the power cord for the canister its self. I tend to think if the center of the hose was THAT bad, everything would have been as well. So could some of the early C9 hoses have been gold or yellow tinted to match the canister?  Or was this particular one just made with odd ball hose material?

Andy.....Read the post again.....

If it was nicotine, then why is the hose cuff and the pistol grip, the cords, the powerhead casing, and all the other white parts not also severely faded? Smoke does not just cling to ONE area, the whole machine would have been that color if that was the case.

That Compact C9 hose was dyed to match the canister .The machine end might have been clean. All in all this compact electra canister vacuum is in pretty good shape .

Do what I do

Coil it up on the top rack of your dishwasher and run it thru the longest cycle, It cleans vinyl hoses like NEW!

Depending on the carpet dye it transferred to that style of hose easily. A friend had a red carpet and her vacuum hose (Same style) turned pink from vacuuming up the fibers. It didnt affect the cuffs because there is metal under them (end connection) so the died fibers arent touching them inside
