Spec's for AEG AG71A

I'm in the market for a handheld vac. I am happy to use it plugged so being cordless would be a luxury but not a necessity. My priority is suction power.

So, I've come across this B&D and it has detailed spec's:

I've also seen this AEG model which looks okay but I can't find detailed spec's for it:

Does anyone know where to find detailed spec's or can anyone generally advise between the two, or similar models.

Hi mdm, the AEG was previously sold in the UK under the Electrolux Z61A Corded Handheld/Stair Vacuum Cleaner. It is available at John Lewis and others under the AEG AG71A title. What KIND of detailed spec are you looking for that you can't seem to find? I know some of the other UK members on here have the Electrolux/AEG model, but in in the U.S it is also sold under the name of Eureka 71B

If looking for a hand held with a motorised brush roll, second hand Dirt Devil Handy vacs are great but they don't have a built in hose. It's forte is a brush roll and easy enough weight. Takes a bag but has a soft bag on the rear end can be used bagless (but its messy).

Then there's the Hometek Hunter, or Dirt Devil 1000 DHC004 - I had one of those - they're slightly more modern as they have a hose on the back of them, but its a roasting hand kind of an experience and the filter clogs up a lot, being a basic paper pleated cone/single cone bagless job.

Personally if it was me, I'd buy a small cheap bagged cylinder vac with a long hose, and just use that provided it has tools on board I can use. But if it is for stair cleaning only, either a hand held mains corded vac like the AEG or Dirt Devils or an air driven turbo brush for the vacuum I already own.

I have the AEG Rapid Clean and think its a superb machine. Produces very good suction and doesn't loose suction till the container is very nearly full. Once, to test it, I vacuumed two bedrooms, the landing and bathroom with it. It was full afterwards but suction was still strong.

When emptying it though I find it best to vacuum the filter with another machine as this keeps it working like new. The filter isn't supposed to be washable but I've read online lots of people saything they've washed theirs and it's been fine

Just realised I ALSO have that Black and Decker machine!!!!!

Well, mines black, but essentially the same 18v lithium pet edition.

I'll be selling it on ebay as I bought the AEG to replace it.

The B&D machine is VERY good for a hand held, and will cope with vacuuming a dirty car without loosing suction. Filtration also seems slightly better than the AEG.

HOWEVER the AEG offers much better suction - suction strong enough to rival a full size machine - its mains powered so no need to charge it and no run time limit and it has a revolving brush.

It all boils down to what you want it for....

For just keeping on top of a car once a week I'd say go for the B&D as it is much more nimble to use, but for mixed regular use inside the home as well as the car I'd say go for the AEG.

For me personally, the B&D is a very good cordless machine, but the AEG offers a better level of cleaning ability.

Can you explain a little about your cicumstances before we give any advice?

You ask for suction power but what exactly are you sucking up? Is it bcause you have pets and you want pet hair removal from stairs and upholstery that requires more agressive agitation? OR do you just have normal non lint dirt that can be gotten up just by suction?

What sort of attachments are you likely to use or do you just plan on using the main cleaner even if it restricts access or ease of use?

Will the use of a hose be good - one attached to the cleaner for getting between awkward gaps and in restricted space?

Theres so many chocies out there and very good ones that its important to know what your needs are before advice is given.

Well for corded hand helds vacuums, there aren't actually that many options in the UK, any more. Bit of a pity I think.

Just a warning: Consumer Reports commented that the strong airflow from the exhaust of the similar Eureka version may blow dirt around before you have a chance to capture it with the vac.
