And sometimes I'm astonished at how little action they get.

This is a very rare Eureka, and even though not in 100% perfect condition, I was all set to send an "OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT THIS WENT FOR" message to Vacuumland.

Well, I =am= sending an "OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT THIS WENT FOR" message to Vacuumland, but not for the reason I had expected.

Another of those "if only I had a crystal ball..." scenes!!

My thoughts exactly, Charles. I would have gone for it but no shipping to Canada and I was sure the price would skyrocket.

I hope whomever of us that won it will post about it when it arrives, for surely it was one of us...?

Yes, sometimes eBay amazes me. Surely a far better deal than the Lux model XXX you had seen at the garage sale a few days ago. The model M is a beautiful machine, I've never seen a painted red version of it. I do have a red model K? (I believe) one of the last straight suction uprights before the changeover to revolving brush. Does anyone know the significance of these machines being painted red? Were they Eureka's version of "special" machines, refurbished in-house? I know Air-Way offered refurbished Sanitary Systems at a lower price point.

I'm sure that John Lucia, our resident Eureka expert, can answer the question about red Eurekas.

I'd have love to have gotten this red Model M just because it was so nice and so complete. I've seen a couple of the red Model Ms over the years and it's a really nice-looking machine.

But the polished version of it is far more beautiful -- gorgeous late Machine-age styling. I had one for a long time, in incomplete and un-restored condition. I got rid of it when I lost my workshop.

The nicest one I've ever seen belongs to Billy Lipman in Maryland. He's got one in gorgeous condition. If anyone has photos of a restored polished Model M, please post them -- I'd love to see 'em.
