So I was looking at a Kirby 508 on eBay (sans original bag, cord and vinyl trim of course) and I noticed something interesting on the builder's plate. Sometimes they remove the plate altogether (which really is a shame) but this time they cut the Kirby logo out and kept the rest of the plate intact. Does anyone know if a specific vac shop might have done this or why this might have been done? Thanks.

I don't know about Kirbys, but I've seen stuff like that so a product can't be sold as new or subject to an OEM warranty.

It's hard to tell, but it may not be that the name was cut out.  I once did a Kirby rebuild and left the fan case soaking too long in degreaser.  When I took it out to scrub it, the Kirby logo was washed off and it looked just like that.
