I just took a trip to my local Sebo dealer, who used to work for Hoover for 30 or so years. He just got back from a Sebo exhibit which showed off the new models for the USA market coming in the next few months. Obviously you all in the UK and Germany already have them.

After seeing the new model, he said that the new on/off switch being activating by kicking it on the side, is absolutely stupid. He told it right to the engineer's face, saying that won't fly in the US household market. Needless to say, he didn't like being told that.

It is nice that you can replace the cord on it, but I think turning it on and off that way will get old very quick, and he can't see selling that vacuum vs. any other with an easy on/off switch. Heck, he said, the whole Dyson setup for returning the wheels to upright on the ball models causes enought frustration for people to trade it in for another vacuum.

Oh yeah, and prices for Sebo stuff will go up March 1 for the US. Apparently they already did on sebo's us website as for example, the felix motor filter went from $39 to $41.

No difference to the switch on a Hoover Convertible...

That may well be but the reason for putting the switch to the side of the floor head is to keep all of the components together.

Since the switch appeared to work fine for a number of Hoover Junior/Larks and Senior/Convertible models for a good number of years, I see no difference in what SEBO have applied here; they just want to keep everything together in terms of general maintenance.

Oh and welcome to Vacuumland!

Also a lot of buyers are buying SEBO products from other countries, not least some of us in the UK who can't even buy a G1/G2 upright. I have also sent bags to one member on here that aren't available as yet in the U.S; its a heck of a lot cheaper than buying in the U.S

Which Felix filter are you referring to? The motor one or the filter at the front of the body?

I like the fact that Sebo chose to keep all the components together but why put the switch on the side of the floorhead? It would have been better on the top of the floorhead to the rear.

Do they make Ultra bags for the Evolution or just paper bags?

I do like the Evolution :-)

The Evolution upright uses paper dust bags from the BS36 series, so it isn't quite a "G1" replacement as that uses the X synthetic bags.

Also Amazon.com are selling SEBO Felix filters at $14! Not exactly $39 though understandably if that price is from an independent seller, there's your mark up!

SEBO have put the switch in the right place as far as Im concerned - the fact that it still retains the upright lock pedal at the back and is a double thick metal brace should tell you that anything else off the back of the motor is more vulnerable compared to the sides.

Hope they introduce synthetic bags for the evolution they filter better so the bag housing stays clean and the pre motor filter lasts longer.

I see the airflow is the same as the G1 but the rating on carpet is a C, the G1 is a B rating which surprises me. Is the brushroll with the replaceable strips not as good at cleaning as the G1 brushroll?

I wouldn't like to operate the switch with my toes dealing with the handle mounted on the X series seems fine and looking at the 370 Comfort the body mounted switch seems to make sense too.

I wonder what was going through the mind of that engineer. I guess for commercial usage having a foot operated switch where the user isn't going to be toggling the power on and off as often would make sense given they're going to deal with a large area and be done with it, all while wearing shoes or boots.

Did the dealer say that the 350 Evolution was going to replace the G1 and not something like the Windsor version of a BS36/46? It'd make sense if it were to replace those instead of the G1.

Dont trust the EU ratings at all - they don't make any sense.

The filters on the present SEBO uprights are just fine, Marcus. Again experience here talks rather than what you might have heard; the BS36 and 360 models I use don't have messy filters, nor do they have a messy bag housing. Not any more or less than the X series in my ownership experience.

It could well point to a new X series in the future; the housing in particular that holds the bag on the Evolution/main body could well be developed for a domestic version, naturally with a switch on the handle, and all SEBO would have to do to cut costs is add a new power nozzle/floor head on the base.

Far cheaper when you think about it - instead of developing a totally new upright for the domestic market.

@sebo_fan

No that is the price for the outer filter. The bags went up $3.

Nothing major, but it did just go up.

I'm not sure about prices of vacs. Unless that is the normal price, it seems that the Felix in the UK is going for $385. Here it is never less than $600.

It is kinda weird that in the US only the household vacs are sold here, while the commerical ones are under Windsor.

Thanks for the welcome. I read the pages of stuff here before, but now decided to talk with you all.

Thank you.

Sebo entered a contract with Windsor in 1979 to send over their uprights to Windsor in the U.S; the SEBO company only started domestic sales much later on in 1999.

The outer filter doesn't normally require replacing at least two years or more and some owners on here have machine washed them, but then find that the outer colour sleeve falls off.

The bags have gone up because SEBO have improved the filtrete disposable "synthetic" quality to hold more. That's what I love about SEBO the most; the cost of the parts are often cheaper than Miele and you get double the amount of dust bags in a box versus Miele, too.

As far as I know SEBO in the U.S also sell similar uprights to Windsor - end of the day, its all about location and deals.

Nar the Ultra bags do filter better than the paper bags. With paper bags the housing gets coated with dust I've seen it with my own eyes. I had a demo of an X4 about 6 years ago and remember when opening the bag housing it was covered in dust. Speaking to a member with Ultra bags they told me this doesn't happen now which is what I find with the Felix ultra bags which seem to be improved further with my new batch. Miele bags are very good for this too.
But to get the definitive answer I will email Sebo and ask them if the Ultra bags filter better than the paper bags as I may be wrong. :-)

There will be a discrepancy between different manufacturers test ratings but Sebo tested the Evolution and G series and found the G series performed a little better on carpet. [this post was last edited: 3/1/2015-01:56]

Having brought the Ultra synthetic dust bags to this forum's attention in terms of when they first appeared for the X model in the UK, I am already aware how well they filter.

However, Im referring to the commercial market, Marcus; contract cleaners and their companies do not care for synthetic disposable dust bags; not if they are more expensive to buy. Even Numatic vacuums in schools still use paper dust bags; its all about costs these days and those vacuums seal well enough for the standards of cleaning in contract areas AND air quality.

As for dust appearing on the housing, only those with an OCD passion about dust are going to get slightly annoyed. All bagged vacuums do have some dust on the housing in general; it doesn't matter if there's a padded filter in front of the bag to contain it, whether its underneath, above or to the sides - there will still be some dust.

More importantly, the Evolution and SEBOs X filter is away from the motor.

You will keep preaching on and on about these EU ratings - they dont make any sense at all, Marcus. You only have to look at specs for Miele and SEBO to realise that. But you clearly don't!

Maybe i do have OCD :) But one think i like about Miele bags is the bag chamber stays very clean., personally i'd prefer that. And i take your point about the commercial world.

I thought Sebos testing on carpet was quite accurate. The G1, G2, Felix, D4 all get B ratings while the X4, X5 which people say doesn't clean quite as deeply because of the auto height adjustment gets a C rating. Looks spot on to me.

I have just bought a new Sebo model that is tagged as an "Eco" model. Apparently it gets a C rating for hard floors. I would disagree.

Have a look at previous archive thread http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?14793

Even though Miele claim they may have changed their dust bags, very few members on here will be able to report the change since they only came in recently.

Well my experience with my Miele S5 and S8 is the bags retain the dust very well infact the best I've seen and the bag housing stays very clean.

The latest Sebo bags are approaching the same standard too.:-)

I agree there are inaccuracies in the testing but I think on carpets the above mentioned Sebo ratings look very reasonable.

Again, "looking very reasonable" is just an opinion. Actual ownership will only determine how good or bad the appliance is.

The previous thread indicating a messy Miele S7 bag housing and cylinder vac models may well show off the previous HyClean dust bags - but Marcus, those members were also led to believe that those Miele models had sealed suction as well as all the other marketing nonsense. Clearly not.

I do own a Felix Nar which I think has the same brushroll as the G series and D4 Premium so I do have experience of how it cleans.I think a B rating is fair and not inaccurate you might think different. That's fine we are all entitled to our opinions.:-)

And maybe uve found the Miele bags do let the dust through but after using the S5 for 3 years I've not seen any noticeable dust in the bag chamber.

I will take a photo of the bag housing when I get home from work and you will see it is spotlessly clean.[this post was last edited: 3/2/2015-07:13]

I don't particularly agree with ANY rating. However, suffice to say the Evolution is not a domestic model, it is fitted with a heavier metal brush roll similar to the BS36/360 and others, designed to last longer. It is MADE for the commercial market having removable brush strip sets.

The G2 series has a longer brush roll - maybe its the extra length but I notice better pick up with this vacuum compared to my Felix with the shorter brush roll.

Have you gone off Miele? I thought you liked them?

Personally I think the S5 and S8 are excellent machines the only other bagged cylinders I'd consider available in the UK would be Sebo which in some aspects are better.

I realise the Evolution is a commercial machine. It looks very good to me I'd like to see a domestic version. :-)
