Some Compact info needed please

Ok so I have been searching for this info but didn't really get anywhere.

first question, when did the Compact c-8 introduce it's power nozzle with the black label? I found 1978 but i'm not sure thats right as I have seen this nozzle with the metal elbow/neck which was discontinued by Eureka in 1976ish and replaced with the plastic. Also was it only the gold c-8 to have this or did the orange or apple green have one?

next question, was the c-80 only Canadian with just a few dealers in the US or was it also made for here as well?

last question, I have a tristar cxl from 1983 thats maroon but is a single speed and the model number is c-9 CXL so is that a transitional model and if so why wouldn't it be a c-80 CXL since the c-80 was the last Compact?

i know we have people here who know this. this club was founded to SHARE our knowledge of these machines, and help each other. its just down right rude to not participate and discuss. if one should feel the need to keep such information, and feel that it should not be given out, the really you need to leave. im getting tired of asking questions, then being left in the dark, and so is Phillip. i answer what ever i can, and at least try. but none of you even try anymore. so yeah Phil, i guess its back to observation and Google for me to....

Red Compact C9 vs. red TriStar CXL

Both models were made by Interstate Engineering Co. (IEC) from 1982-85.

The Compact C9 was sold in vac shops; it has a 1-speed 2-stage Ametek motor. The Compact C9 was the economy model. After 1985, IEC discontinued the Compact brand.

The TriStar CXL (C80) was the deluxe model; it was sold in-home demos. Starting in 1982, IEC changed the name from Compact>TriStar; but in 1986 to present the only brand IEC uses is TriStar.

The red TriStar CXL has a 2-speed, 2-stage Ametek motor; but when IEC changed the color of the CXL, they put a single speed, 2-fan motor, just like the Compact models prior to the name change & introduction of the red CXL.

Sometime throughout the red CXL production, IEC stopped using Eureka power nozzles & IEC began making their own PNs.

The MG1 had the crappy VM3 single fan motor, which has a VERY short lifespan.

When the MG3 came out, so did the sprayer attachment. It also has the new JEI motor; but reliability is unknown at this time.[this post was last edited: 2/10/2013-15:57]

The red C9 Compact has a "rubber" glitter/clear handle & metal switch cover/cord hook; & the red TriStar CXL has a one piece metal handle/switch cover. Some metal handle/switch covers & bag door lids were polished aluminum; some were speckled hammertone grey/black; & even some painted red or whatever colors TriStar (IEC) used on the CXLs.

The 1979 periwinkle blue Compact C9 (may have occured earlier with the mustard gold C8) no longer came with the metal rug tool; it became an optional accessory, just like the PN. The C9 had a so-called "carpet adapter" which was a vinyl clear/glittered shoe that U attach onto the underside of the bare floor/wall brush for vacing rugs, carpets & upholstery.

During the later run of the red CXL, when IEC made their own PNs, the PN became a standard accessory; but still included the "carpet adapter" attachment.

Of these two tools, I much prefer the polished metal rug tool more than the rug shoe.

When the carpet adaptor is in use. I only used the adapter once for vacing delicate rugs; but I prefer either the PN or metal rug tool. Sometimes the carpet adapter comes off the floor brush when in use; & crushes the floor brush bristles.

interesteing but I have a question. I have a maroon compact c-9 the has tristar painted on the side in silver paint with CXL with a maroon Eureka made power nozzle with glossy label all dated 1984. It has the clear speckled handel and one speed motor. My question is why does it say tri star put has the compact model number?
