So why have Dyson re-introduced the DC33?

Dyson someone on here (sorry I cant remember your name, something like Dyson fan :/ ) posted a thread saying that argos had re-introduced the Dc33.

Now I thought this was odd but apparently it isn't uncommon for Dyson to do this, but looking on Dyson.co.uk, the DC33 is also listen there as a current model. So why? I thought Dyson had sworn off non-ball dysons? If the wattage on the 33 low? And people not liking the ball design as much? Or is it just to get rid of stock?

If it is the later, then why have they waited for over a year to do it?

Anyway, Dyson have goofed in the description.

It mentions a "motorised brushbar", with the switch "above the clear bin". Complete hooey. The pictures of the machine show a mechanical clutch, of the type fitted to the DC04, DC07.

And Yay! I am pleased, I am hoping they dont discontinue the wheeled dysons, they are good and I am on the edge of getting a DC33 Multi Floor from Argos!

I was speaking to a Dyson salesman in my local Currys today, very nice man and he let me & Joe try out quite a few of the display models, I had explained that we were vacuum enthusiast's, and he was very understanding and probably quite pleased there was someone to talk to there who knew about the vacuums etc.


 


Anyway, I remembered this thread and asked him why they were reselling the DC33, and he said it was due to the new EC law, and they had been stocked up somewhere so they were selling them off cheap.

Hold on, that sill doesn't make sense. Why wait until now to sell them on ? And what has the EU rating got to do with selling a 1300 watt vacuum ? If that's the case there must be a load of them for argos and dyson to put them back up on their site again.

I think more than likely Dyson noticed a drop in sales when they decided to sell only ball cleaners. Knowing what the consumer wants is no small task and many a manufacturer & retailer has lost a good deal of money finding out one way or the other.

To some extent, changes can be forced onto a consumer, but usually only when the competition is doing the same. Twin-tub washing machines, for example. When Hotpoint stopped making their twin-tub, consumers had three choices; hand-washing, locating a 2nd hand twin-tub, or purchasing an automatic. Given that no one else was making a twin-tub, it was easy to force the consumer into buying an automatic machine.

However, in this instance, automatic washing machines were the number one choice for a good deal of consumers anyway, thus other manufacturers had decided to dispense with twin-tubs long before Hotpoint did. As it stands, "ball" type upright cleaners are not widely available outside of the Dyson brand, and until such time that all vacuum cleaners are mounted on a ball, Dyson is going to struggle to win-over those consumers who would prefer a wheeled machine.

When I read that Dyson was stopping production of wheeled cleaners, I did find myself taking a sharp intake of breath. Doing that is one hell of a gamble. I often wonder if Dyson ever do any research into what consumers want.

Oh and BTW I remember last year on Dyson's Facebook page that someone asked if they could buy a DC33 because they wanted a wheeled upright. Dyson couldn't really help much, but in the end the guy found a Red DC33i from another retailer, luckily.

Luckily? I doubt the person concerned would have much trouble finding a wheeled Dyson -the vacs from new and old stock are heavily on the Internet.

I'm sure I have read Vintagerepairer in the past Mr Dyson is not really one for market research and what the customer wants more of what he thinks the customer wants. I was surprised to see them discontinue their wheeled vacuums. I would of thought they would of kept one model as a base entry model. I think doing this will of lost some custom of thoughts who don't like the ball models.
