Single Layer Paper Bags?!?! Not For A Machine That Runs This Smooth!!

Hey everyone, so, I have not been happy with the bags that are available for the Electrolux 600 series, they are single layer thick paper bags that let a lot of dust through, now my 616 has a very good motor, it runs flawlessly and I can only seem to get single layer thick paper bags for it, so here is what I came up with.

I recently bought an Electrolux Airstream 1000 off eBay, and I bought some bags at my local vac shop, thinking they would just be the double layer, paper Contour Style bags, well, I picked up the pack that said "Airstream 1000" on it and the packet was quite soft and chunky, so I turned it over and what do you know? they were synthetic cloth bags and came with 2 filters! Nice!

Anyway, the Airstream bags have the Contour type connector collar on them (well, the Airstream is just a more powerful Contour and upgraded filtration) so it accrued to me that I could pull that cardboard collar off the Airstream bag, then take the cardboard collar off the 600 style bag, and stick it onto the synthetic cloth bag with double sided sticky tape, which we have lots of, as mum is a paper crafter.

Here you can see I took off the cardboard collar off the Airstream bag...

Here I have taken off the collar on the 600 style bag and stuck very strong double sided sticky tape on four sides of the cardboard collar.

Now I have stuck it over the hole of the Synthetic Airstream bag and really give it a good press to make sure it is not going anywhere...

And finally...

Here is the "new bag" fitted into the 616, it fits very well in the bag housing. I am not sure if the bags are HEPA or not, but I guess they will be better than the crappy single layer thick paper bags, that are "designed" for the 600 series.

What is "heap" Alex?

I'd be worried about doing that that the sticky tape will not hold the bag to the collar in the longer term as the weight of the bag pulls at the joint. could you not use some superglue to do it instead? tape on fabric is not the most reliable seal - I'd advise you to keep your eye on it after every use.
Make sure that the pre-motor filter is in good condition as well, just in case the join does come apart!

Lol, I meant HEPA, I have amended it now.

Well, If I had used super glue, what do you think would of happened when I pressed it down? The glue would of soaked right through the fabric bag and stuck the two sides together.
Before installing it I did give it a good tug and the bag didn't seem to come off or start to come away from the cardboard.

I think it will hold just fine but I will be checking anyway, not that it is used regularly, but since the bag is resting on the filter cage, I don't imagine it will be pulling on the bag collar, I imagine as it fills it will just sit on top of the filter cage.

I cut the top off a Sebo X4 bag and used it on my Hoover Ranger to give it better filtration, as Sebo bags are triple layer and you know how they mount onto a Hoover fill tube, so they fitted quite well.
