Hey guys. Today I got this used Simplicity G9.4 in rather good condition for $100 off of Facebook marketplace, however an issue has arisen. When the direct air motor is activated, there seems to be a vibrating or rattling noise that is not present in the upright position or when the direct air motor is deactivated. It sounds almost like a vibrating fan or brush roll, however as I am not well versed with the mechanics of these machines I am unsure. The brush strips are loose in the aluminum housing, however I do not believe this is the cause, but I cant be sure. I have linked a video I made of the vacuum below so you can see for yourself what I am talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this has been one of my dream vacuums for a while and I would like to be able to use it without worry. Thank you.

oh!

If you haven't already check the endcaps where the bearings sit make sure there's no play around the bearings. I've seen one or two older models where the space around the bearings had worn allowing the brush to vibrate. Might not be your issue but it never hurts to check.

Update-

It is definitely a motor issue. The sound persists even when the brush roll and belt are removed from the motor.

Hmm...

That's an odd noise I'd open it up and wire the direct air motor directly. It almost sounds like it's arcing in that video.

I was thinking that, but wouldn't there be a loss of some brush roll power and surging of the bypass motor? I think that no matter what happens at this point that I need to replace the direct air motor. Does anyone know where I can source this part for a reasonable price? I really want to love this vacuum but it's a little bit hard to right now.

Maybe

Typically motors that are arcing spin a little slower i'm unsure if it's torque would be effected but it's possible. I don't think the Bypass motor would surge though since it'd just be the direct air motor with the issue.

As for getting a replacement. I'd check with a dealer, or perhaps a vacuumland member who has connections to Tacony. I've noticed that sites like partswarehouse charge MSRP and dealers often charge less.
