Simplicity 5000A.

Here is a machine I got today at the thrift store for $8. The wires are wrapped around the handle because the top grip Holder is broken off, but this machine needs some work to it. It needs a spring for the foot release, the belt needs fix, and it needs a top grip for the wires. This machine sounds healthy, but can someone tell me the year on this and what it's capable of and is it rare?

I did more info on this machine it’s from 1994 and yes it is rare because it’s the first generation of simplicity.

I am starting to see more and more of these lately.

I had found the Simplicity 4800 last month in a thrift store dumpster - worked fine.

I was wrong

My simplicity isn’t first gen but still it’s cool having a beast from the 90s. What was the first gen simplicity if anyone knows?

I'm not sure when the 5000 was made but I know my mom bought the blue brand new 5200 in the summer of 1995. The local vacuum shop pushed this model heavily and it seemed like many houses in my neighborhood transitioned from their canister vacuums/central vacs over to this Simplicity in the mid 90's. By the early 2000's they began pushing Miele canisters. My brother was given the Simplicity when he bought his first house and it lived for a long time there. They cleaned carpeting pretty well and this dealer gave everyone the tool kit with the long hose so you could clean bare floors easily. The only downfall I remember was it didn't have edge cleaning on one side and always smelled musty.

I remember when in 1990 The Simplicity line was launched. Tacony had just purchased Riccar. The 5000 was the entry model, with the blue 5200 the next model, the red 5300 with the rug/floor selector, and the grey 5500 was the commercial model. About 1991, the even less expensive 4800 launched as a true entry model.

Those were the first generation of Simplicity uprights, way before the 6 Series and the 7 Series.
