I recently aquired a Silver-King vacuum cleaner that I would be interested to know more about. My research shows that these have been around since the 1940s yet the vintage vacuum sites I have found do not seem to acknowledge them. I suspect this is from the sixties or seventies due to the hose and electrical plug styles. The Model# is 285391. I would appreciate any information that anyone would be willing to share. Thanks....todd

ANSWERING SILVER -KING CALL

Hello!

What you have here is a Silver King Model AD which was manufacted in "Lyons, IL" in the 1970s'
This model was the "Deep Pan" model and could be used with a bag called "econo sak" which was pulled over a black gasket to hold it on inside. A Sears kenmore bag 5011 will work fine.
Silver King was manufacted by "Thompson and Sons" from 1940-1987 and were bought out by Craig Leerburg in Colorado Springs
where they are now manufacted called "Silver King Blue Max".
I would recommend that you use the new Polypropylene filters which have remarkable filtration from the "old style" ones.
They are the large round filter which goes on top before the black gasket where the top shell fits on.
Also, you should have "safety filters" around the motor inside.
These machines are workhorses and I own (6) of them!
Do you have all of the tools? If not, I can help you!
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Happy Vacuuming!
Tania

Thanks for the info Tania. I only have the one attachment shown in the pic. I would be interested to know what's involved with aquiring the other bits.

I opened this baby up and it's pretty much as you have descibed it. It also came with the previous owners most recent vacuumings........which leads me to wonder what interesting items collectors may have discovered inside newly aquired vacuums.

Not Much lol

"leads me to wonder what interesting items collectors may have discovered inside newly aquired vacuums."

The most ineresting thing I foud inside a trash vac was a gold necklace with a cross, The interesting part was ti was stuc in the dirt tube on a concept so it had been swept up drawn through the fan and was basicly stuck in the crud that cpllects at the top of the tube, and the whole thing was virtualy undamaged.Perhaps because it was clasped together?
I tried to return it to its owner but she said it wasn't hers and it didn't look firmillar.Very strange.
Other than that I only find the usual furballs, matchbox cars misc. toys marbles and dirt lol

Hello Todd!

I can help you aquire the original parts, as I have a lot of Silver King stuff!
When I get a used vacuum I always use Pinesol to disenfect it using hot water and then dry it completely. ...That will do the trick! Let me know exactly what you would like in tools.
This Silver King is a nice portable shop vac.
