Should I buy a DC40?

I've been looking to purchase a new vacuum and I'm considering a DC40 Multi Floor, which is £100 off at Dyson UK. Anyone think I should? I watched the QVC Demonstration from the US and I'm going to have to save a bit but i'll get one soon.


 


Anyone else reccomend?

Well, no, not really. I would just find a new or refurbished dc25 instead. It has more aggressive agitation and is far better built. All of the new dyson lineup have loads of problems, I work for a vacuum shop and we see more of the four current dyson upright models in for repair then all other makes and models combined! (dc65, dc41, dc40, dc50)

I think you should I personally really like the new models as I have had almost all of them going to get people saying that the rubbish and they need a lot of repairs I never had a problem with my DC 41 or dc40 they did have some problems when I first came out but that's all been fixed and the DC 25 is a good vacuum cleaner but the filter get really dirty really quickly and that never happened to the DC40 dc41 dc39 and don't forget you get a five year guarantee so if anything breaks and fix it for you and newcDyson ball is so easy to manoeuvre on compared to the older generation It's up to you I think the DC40 for is a great machine great durability and you get years out of it but I do think the DC 39 animal is better The end of the day it's your decision

The DC25 is a much better machine and it actually has a ball, instead of two large bowls on the side forming a "V" ball, it's just not good
DC25 is much more durable, has two rows of stiff, fat bristles which stick out to give a good beating (for a Dyson anyways) and it is much easier to clean out a clog, the pipes on the side are removable and can be washed if you find they get dirty, with the DC40, the pipe and all the stuff is inside, you will need a screw driver to undo a screw and remove the hose pipe in the ball.
DC25 has a metal wand, instead of a plastic bendy one like the DC40.
I tried a Dc41 for a week in my home, and turning the ball made the top half of the vacuum twist, especially the handle which turned due to the flexible plastic. I would say the DC25 is a much better buy, or you can use your DC33

To take the brushbar out with the DC25, you need 1 coin, and the brushbar comes out the side, like a Sebo X1/X4. The DC40/DC41 needs 4 screws to be undone in order to remove the brushes.

I do agree that the ball cylinders are way better than the uprights, but that doesn't skirt the fact that the new uprights have issues. The small wheel on the cleaner head in the belt cover wears out really fast and then scratches hard floors, the non filter side of the ball's bracket snaps off all the time on the dc41's, and we have had very, very early motor failures on the dc65's, like, one month old machines that have clearly seen practically no use with completely fried motors.

Of course, that is in the hands of your average consumer, even though many of these problems were clearly not the owner's fault.

Why would dyson bring out a brand-new models that doesn't clean better then the previous models that doesn't make sense the DC 40 has stiff bristles but they are skinny and has less bristles .bristles come out a lot further out the baseplate on the DC40 you can barely see them on the DC25. But DC 25 and 41 both twist DC 41 dc40 does twister little bit more then the DC25.The DC40 and dc41 turn better than the DC 25 and manoeuvre so much easier and it's still a ball. let's put it in this way A Hoover junior brushes are actually softer in DC 40 but The Hoover junior would clean better is because it's got a better brush roll is not always about the bristles is about the brush roll design

Like I said before all the problems with the DC 41 and everything has been fixed in the 2013 models DC 65 motor failure sounds like a manufacturing problem poppy someone that works in Malaysia that isn't doing their job properly :0 if is it is a design flaw the puppy fixed it ages ago

DC40

I saw it today and compared it against the DC25 that was there and I prefer the DC40. Its newer technology and looks much better and streamlined than the DC25.


 


Looking at the DC40 Brush above, i'm putting a picture of DC25 Brush, which has less brushes and doesnt look as good as the the DC40 brushroll.


 


I don't mind the DC33 but it's a bit bulky as upstairs in our house we have lots of furniture and its hard for the DC33 to get round them, so the Ball will be handy there.


 


If I buy the DC40 from Dyson its £30 cheaper than the DC25. I don't really care much about the fact its more plastic, it has the warranty so any parts will should come under that.

Dyson dont cover accidental damage I'm afraid...
Dc25 bristles are much thicker, so they are still stiff and actually agitates the carpet much better than most Dysons, including the DC50, DC40 and DC41.
There is also less to go wrong with a Dc25, and it is the last ball Dyson

Sorry but the DC 25 might have stiff bristles but it doesn't clean better than the DC 41 dc40 dc50 and the DC40 has got stiffer bristles like I said it's not always about the bristles it's about the design of the brush roll and how many bristles it's got

I was saying that the DC25 actually beat the carpet a bit due to the brushbar design

Whatever works, if you really want it and think it will be a good fit for you then go for it! I was just sharing my experience with the newer range.
