Hey all,

I'm looking to buy an Electrolux canister, preferably a Super J, Silverado, Diamond Jubilee, Grand Marquis, or UltraLux.

Which of these models is unimportant to me, as long as it's in good running order. Cosmetic condition also does not matter, as this would my "workhorse vacuum" that I use during repairs, vacuuming the basement, etc.

I have a hose and all the attachments already, but my Silverado recently crapped out and would like to replace it with another Electrolux. I've looked on eBay and the prices are all way too high for just the machine itself.

My email is on my profile or you can message me through Vacuumland messaging.

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Before you replace your Silverado have it checked. The problem may be relatively minor and less expensive than a whole "new to you" machine. Another option would be to get a new or used motor for it. If the body's in good shape that's what I'd do. I've heard of too many Electroluxes and other vintage cleaners come back to life after simple repair jobs.

Not sure, when my own Avocado Bomber had its motor go 'pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffboom', all it needed was an oiled bearing!

That's too bad, Matt. Besides sparing a machine from the parts department or salvage yard I prefer original sets of items such as the tank, its hose, and attachments; so I'd even like you to keep your Silverado set intact.

If you have any interest in repairing it consider contacting Tom Gasko (dysonman1), Charles Lester (electrolux137), or others who could accurately coach you because of their experience. I have a limited amount of experience otherwise I'd help. I have gotten to know a guy who owns his own vacuum cleaner store, and he is helping me learn the ropes little by little. The only problem is that he's about 90 miles away.

Anyway, consider keeping your Silverado in case you learn how to repair it or find someone willing to do so. What if it just needs a new switch or brushes? Even though it's beat up it can be restored. As for getting another tank if no one responds here you might check with your local vac shops to see if they have any trade-ins that you could get for cheap or check out Craigslist for a low-priced machine.

Regarding repair shops not repairing old metal Electrolux vacuums....my experience has been that most vac shops are VERY sleazy, & only care about profit. They don't want to repair your old vacuum & make a little money, they want to sell you some Chinese made piece of crap that dies in 5 years & make a ton of money off you.

Yes I totally agree & when you ask for parts they look at you like you don't know what you're doing or I'm the only qualified person to do the repair, & then I have to tell them I've been doing my own repairs longer then you've been on planet earth!
