My grandparents have 5 'Luxes, and I wouldn't be surprised if they've had more over the years.

At their main house, there is an Ambassador 3 in the front hall closet (there is also a blue L/1205 hose in this same closet). Upstairs, there is a Diamond Jubilee in the linen closet. In the basement, there is no vacuum present, but there is a floor tool/wand and Model AF hose hanging there, as well as formerly a Super J hose

At their former weekend/vacation house (which is still in the family but no longer used by them), there is a Grand Marquise/Ultralux -- with a Golden/Super J hose -- in the front hall closet (a matching hose to this machine is also in the closet). on the new upstairs is a Super J, with an Olympia One hose. And then on the old upstairs is a blue Model L, which I understand is their original machine; the one that my dad and uncles grew up with.

I wonder what explains all of their extra hoses/accessories? Have they had other machines over the years that I never saw, and that they may have forgotten? Someday, I hope to have all of these machines as long as they're all still working.

Your family are definitely dedicated 'Lux people; that's for sure. While there could have been more machines at one time but there's also the possibility that some of those woven hoses were replaced as they deteriorated and lost suction, as they inevitably do, and the old ones were never tossed out. I still have two woven hoses but I never use them anymore since I've accumulated an assortment of vinyl replacement hoses. I actually almost relegated one of my 1205s to the barn as a potential parts donor until I tried it out with a new hose (also the first time it had run with an electrified hose) and confirmed its lackluster performance was due to worn out non-electrified that had always been with it since Dad rescued the machine from beside a dumpster when I was in high school, circa 1981. That may well have also been the reason the neighbors were tossing it. Seeing that it worked just as well as my other 1205 prompted me to replace the broken handle and press it into service.

@human

We definitely are, and that's where I get it from :). I think the Lux we had when I was little was also an Ambassador 3, but it was newer (I think the iteration that was white with silver/light blue trim). That's a great point about the hoses having been replaced; though the woven hoses look cool, they are not known for keeping air in :/. I have to wonder, though, if they may have had an Olympia at one point since the SJ has an Olympia hose; and maybe then each machine was bought 5 years apart. Probably something like this:

L: 1970
SJ: 1975
Oympia: 1980
DJ: 1985
Ultralux/GM: 1990
Ambassador: 1995

Since I believe that's approximately when each of their machines date to.

Not totally related, but I thought many of y’all would also appreciate seeing their 2 Maytag washers. 1975 A107 is at their main house and is original to when they bought the house in 78. So, despite being the older one, it is the one that gets used more and has never failed. 85 A506 is at the vacation house and wasn’t used for nearly 2 years during the pandemic, but still washes perfectly! Funny thing is, I think the 506 matches the main house vacuums better (especially the Ambassador); and the 107 matches the SJ and L better, at the other house. I hope to have both washers someday too.

And BTW, both matching dryers have been replaced.

Seniors are dihards for Electroluxes. My great grandmother was nothing but Electrolux, still have her Olympia One. She had a golden jubilee I assume from new until the motor blew up in a fireball in the late 90s/early 2000s.

I also got a Electrolux LX with a cart dolly for it from an elderly Japanese woman out in California. Aside from some humidity peeling to the chrome plating and a bit of cracking to the tires, it's in excellent shape. Nothing rusted or stuck, fully functional and sounds great.
