Strolling through Sears today revealed a few new Kenmore uprights!


 


First off, Their Budget cleaners. These where disused Earlier, But I don't remember discussing the bagless machines?


 


They seem well made, the only difference between the economy model and the higher end machines being the higher end model has a removable HEPA filter and Turbo tool.

I really appreciate how many bagged machines Sears-Kenmore makes. They seem to be the last department store brand that actually promotes the system. What a sight it is today to see a brand new bagged vacuum displayed next to genuine bags. Thanks for posting the pictures!

Indeed, it is nice how many bagged machines Kenmore has at all price ranges. I just ordered the low end silver bagged upright as it was marked 40$ off for black Friday. I will likely post something about it when I get it.

I Bought the Kenmore Progressive 21614

On Black Friday for $179.99, went and picked it up today and the thing that surprised me was just how quiet yet powerful the machine is. I turned it on the first time and was floored by how the PN is strong enough to pull itself across the floor. The blueberry color is really nice too. My only concern is that the door for the attachments and Pet PowerMate Junior don't open smoothly and I'm afraid I'm going to break them. I love how easily the thing moves around though and all around I am very very impressed. Here's a picture sorry about it being sideways.

I saw the uprights this weekend. I was wondering what the differences on the blue vs silver ones.

My favorite is the aqua blue Intuition upright, which also has the three motor system. I just really like the aqua blue color.

The Blueberry canister is great too. I have the Red one, just used it for decluttering my house and cleaning behind furniture. It does a great job.

Tyler....don't you find the hose handle on the new canisters too bulky? Those integrated dusting brushes seem to make the whole handle really big, preventing you from squeezing into tight spaces behind refrigerators, besides beds and under car seats. Do the integrated attachments even work well? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this aspect of the new Kenmore canisters.

I'll be honest I thought I would find the handle bulky, but it really doesn't bother me too bad. I used the dusting brush and the Pet PowerMate today and both seemed to work find for my needs today in a basic vacuuming job. This is the first Kenmore canister I've used since my grandmothers in the mid 90s (a navy blue Whispertone model). I have seen some complaints about the dusting brush in a few online reviews. I haven't used the crevice tool yet so I can't say for it. Really the only thing so far that I know for sure of is that you have to be really careful while vacuuming and watch your thumb or you will inadvertently knock the suction control down.

My opinion:

I agree with Tyler the handle is somewhat bulky. It isn't a big deal to me unless I'm trying to clean shelves or other tight areas. The integrated dusting brush can't swivel which I find more of a drawback than the bulky design.

I will say the dusting brush works well, it has horsehair bristles which are fairly soft compared to most other current canisters. The crevice tool has half-circle vents each side which I don't understand the purpose of. They leak too much suction from it, in my opinion.

I haven't tried the Pet Powermate, so can't give an opinion there. The pet hair/upholstery tool works pretty well though.

The floor brush is a big improvement. They kept the bristle placement of the older ones, but improved the swivel so it can swivel side to side AND forward and back. Now you can hold the wand at many different angles without the brush tipping up. They also added a felt pad at the rear to keep it from scraping the floor. It even has horsehair bristles. Only issue is it is still quite small.

You know, I often need to vacuum drawers in a dresser or night-table or in the kitchen. That Kenmore hose handle with the integrated dusting brush would not really be good for the task. Indeed, you need to be able to swivel the dusting brush on the end of the hose to more easily get to the back areas of the drawers. This new Kenmore set-up really is not good for the task. Much better to have an old fashioned slim hose handle with friction-fit dusting brush!

Nice to see they really improved the floor brush, though!

It is nice to see new development in bagged machines. Sears have always been competitive machines in features. However, I still don't see any mention of the machine being sealed. Historically, Sears has struggled in the filtration department and Kenmore machines have not scored well on indoor air quality emissions tests. Numerous tests have been performed with particle meters and others and have shown Kenmore machines to be high particle emitters, sometimes as high as nearly 1,000,000 particles per second. Holding as much dirt inside as possible should be every vacuum cleaner company's ultimate goal. I really hope they are able to rectify that. It doesn't mean much to make a bagged machine if it isn't gonna hold the dirt inside.

I've worked on lots of Kenmores. One thing I've noticed is the shrinking motor size. It will be interesting to see if the later, Chinese, smaller motors last as long as the older, larger ones. Same story with the Hoover product. Quite a few later machines that had bad motors that I've rebuilt wound up with a larger motor out of an older donor machine. A kind of upgrade if you will.

When I do move out in 2016, there is a higher chance I will refuse Kenmore.

Blue Kenmore Upright...

Hey everyone. Just thought I would let you guys know that my mom is getting me the blue bagged Kenmore Upright shown above for Christmas. If anyone would like me to do an in-depth review/opinion thread once I have used it, let me know! I would also be glad to post pictures of the machine (unboxing, assembly, etc.) if you are interested!

I read a review on the Elite upright where the reviewer mentioned the machine is made by Panasonic in China. In their opinion the quality was better than the Mexico-made Intuitions.
