Sauber trying to come to the US

I went to the VDTA today and when I was walking around I came across a vacuum that looked like the new Aerus Guardian platinum canister, I had to do a double take because for the years I've been going to the VDTA I haven't seen Aerus there so I had to check it out. Sauber was there through Godfreys out of Australia, the reps that showed me the vacuum were the greatest. To me the Sauber has much or superior hose and attachments than the Guardian. I hope they bring Sauber to the US maybe lower the price of the Guardian.

PS I promise there is a vacuum somewhere in the first picture.

I wish you had not said that! I kept thinking the new Aerus reminded me of something and know I realize -it was a cheap toaster. Funny idea!

I love the braided hose and tool design. I would be temped just because of the hose design. Wonder if there is ANY difference in the machine and the new Aerus in power or bags?

That's weird. How could Aerus allow Sauber to directly compete with the same canister vac? I know the tools are different, but the Aerus and Sauber are based on the exact same canister design as that of the parent company Lux International of Switzerland.

It would be similar to having Hoover USA show up in the UK with a vacuum identical to the Vax version.

It has been done before, not exactly by Hoover the brand, but by others. It depends on the marketing. After all, Electrolux in the UK may no longer apply their own name to vacuums, but there are a few AEG and Zanussi vacuums in the last year or so that have popped up, same machine, different badge - both are marketed completely differently though to attract buyers - and buyers these days don't often question that much about the brand other than reliability.

If Sauber market this vacuum away from Aerus, it could well become an obvious rival but if it is more expensive than Aerus, it may not sell well if it is pitched directly as an Aerus rival.

So what exactly are their plans for the US market? Are they definitely coming, or just toying with the idea?

The dealer cost is $1400 and they are looking for someone to help them bring them in, I passed the information to my friend that owns DNP motors & parts and that is bringing Johnny vac to the US.

Seems strange since you can buy the Aerus platinum for 1400! I wonder if they would sell in retail stores - and that would be their defining marketing move. Competition is always good so we will see.

I do love the Lux Guardian Platinum, but I have to say I like the wands and attachments much better on the Sauber.

I realize they are the same machines underneath, but the aluminum wands are much sleeker and more fitting to a great looking machine. Now the Sauber's powernozzle would take some getting used to over the L shaped Lux, maybe they could keep that.

Sounds like Sauber is wanting a better deal from Aerus, and this is one way to get it. $1400 seems really high for dealer cost. What would retail cost be $2000+? To sell for that high a price you have to have in home sales with high pressure sales tactics. My guess is they want a bigger cut of the profits from Aerus. Why pay such a high price when you can get a Simplicity/Riccar or Miele for much less?

From what my friends who are at VDTA show right now are telling me, the dealer cost is not $1400. That's the suggested retail cost. The wholesale cost is half that.

Like the Sirena (excellent vacuum by the way), the wholesale is normally half the retail cost.

A $750 wholesale cost would make the Sauber exactly the same wholesale cost as the Miele S8 Uniq with 236 power nozzle. At $1400 retail cost, that's quite high to expect anyone to pay in a vacuum shop.

Here in El Paso the lux guardian platinum is selling for $3500. I guess I wrote it down wrong but for some reason I thought he told me it was 1400.

$3500 for a Guardian Platinum? What a rip off. I got mine from a dealer in FL for 1/3 of that price.

The Sauber Intelligence is bought from Lux Int, and although it looks like the Aerus, the Sauber is the next model up with an LCD screen (not LED) Handle Controls and a braided hose.

They would not need to ask Aerus permission as they are in the same boat... buying the units en masse from Lux - yes they helped develop the product, but at the end of the day Lux can do what they want within reason.

But - would it then be okay for Aerus to sell a 230volt version of their Guardian Platinum in Australia? To me it would be hard to understand how an Aerus dealer in the USA would accept a competitor vac shop selling essentially the same main unit and elbowing in on their revenue since this is the only premium vac Aerus sells now. Aerus dealers must have some exclusivity guarantee from the company, no? Unless Aerus dealers are given permission to sell Sauber vacs as well.
