SantaToby made a visit.......the "naughty" Lewyt 44!!!

Last Sunday I invited Toby Glenn over to go through the NC57 collection prior to the last big push to "get rid of it". He found a few things - was kinda hopin' he would have brought a trailer to load but.....

If anyone wants to doubt that Toby isn't one of the kindest, most generous people you could meet, take a look at this!!!

It's a Lewyt 44. One of the "naughty" machines that got Lewyt in trouble with Filter Queen. Later of course - they got into even more trouble by electrocuting it's customers, but that's a different story...

Here it is! It even came with the original stocking cap! Very rare indeed.

Lewyt had to remind it's customers that it was in fact a vacuum cleaner. Just in case they tried to bake a cake in it.

The "naughty" part.

No. Not like naughty parts!!! Toby tells me the filter cones from Filter Queens even fit this machine. It came with some. Boy, let's just steal the idea then rub it in your face!!!

This things got suction!!!

It pulls a good 150 on the meter I don't have. But, it pulled my hand way into the intake.

Anyone want to 'splain this nozzle to me? When you push it forward. there is a full-width inlet...

BUT!!!

When you pull it back, this little door closes, exposing the "gleaner" (stealing that term from Electrolux) and all but seals off any air-flow! It leaves just a tiny slit for the dirt to pass through...I don't get it!!!

I had that wrong.......when you pull the nozzle back....it covers up the gleaner....not the other way around!

i have one with the tools and original hose from a church sale. it is nice.

the rug tool has a design flaw as noted. i go through the old issues of consumer reports at my college and found one that stated that fact. lewyt had customers remove the carpet rake. the machine i have had this done to it.

i have 2 other rug tools from various places and its the same with them, removal of the rake.

Wow Rick, that is a neat machine. Aren't you glad that you have been a good boy this year and "Santa Toby" made a visit? One would wonder what Lewyt was thinking when they used the same design as FQ. Thanks for sharing!!

Curious, the 3 tub Lewyts (40/44/55 and now 66) I have all have their rug rake intact and operating. Works just fine on low cut pile carpet. Not so successful on newer looped carpet and certainly not on Shag. LOL It was designed for the common area carperts of the day. The manual specifically mentions the clicking sound you hear on back & forth cleaning. Naturally, on a brand new carpet it would pick up too much fiber lint that would clog and bind the rake's hinges so that's what may have caused the negative CR reports. Due to the Lewyt's superior suction draw, mine all work, and quite well on threads and pet hair and obviously the former owners had no problem with it.

Congrats Rick, on being saved by Toby from Lewyt Deprivation Syndrome, now that I have the beautiful blue Lewyt 66 - it is confirmed a 66, btw.

Nice Rick!!! Hmmm i wonder witch model I had? It wasn't the 44 but it looked very much like it but it did not have the cone filter,it must have been a 55 because it was almost exactly the same as the 44 color and all,and did not have the dolly like Daves66?
