Have any of you on the forum converted a Sanitaire F&G bag set up to use the ST bags by installing the Fill Tube and Overmold unit? If so, how do you install it (step by step process would help) and does it work well? I am trying to decide between buying the Tube and Overmold verses getting a Kirby Fill Tube and Bag Adapter. The Sanitaire part is nearly half the cost of the Kirby parts. Which should I use, or should I say, which will make my Blue Line S648A work better than it does with those awful F&G bags.
Thanks in advance,
Justin

Dirt Tube & Overmold Assembly 77491

This is the exact part that I ordered. Part came with no directions but looking at it, it was like second nature of how to install and took about 5 minutes for entire process I did.

Discard old F&G bag.
Spray inside and outside of vinyl bag with pleasant smelling multi surface cleaner. I used Windex Shimmering Spruce with Glade. Wiped thorougly inside and outside of bag. Wiped hood, wiped dirt tube.
Lower bag spring holder down onto flexible accordian.
Insert converter on tube and push down for gasket to slip over first accordian ripple.
Fasten with spring
Put air freshener tablet into brand new Micro Filtration or HEPA ST bag
Slide ST bag onto collar of new converter tube
Zip bag, plug in vacuum and go to work!!

I'll take pictures some time.

I bought this part from this seller, they are low priced and fast shipper but you do pay shipping unless I think you order enough stuff and it exceeds $100.

To Rob and Rob,
Thanks very much for your help. I have ordered the Tube and Overmold kit AND placed a bid on a blue ST outer bag just in case the Tube and Overmold kit does not work as well as hoped. I'll let you know how it all works out.

I have a Sc899 in my collection and on a walk one day I found a powrflite knock off with a free sign...but it came with a bag full of OEM eureka parts. so I know have cloth shake out bag, dirt cup kit and cloth bag with paper liner.

Hey there Rob! How are you?

I may be wrong here, and please don't be too shy to correct me, but I think you have the Sanitaire tube outlet facing the wrong way. Shouldn't the collector sac of the dust bag be on the zipper side, not the handle side? This is a common error made by people installing Eureka's F&G dust bag - the dirt tube should always be closest to the handle, and the collector sac should be facing the zipper.

Am I wrong here? :-)

Yeah, I did install adapter wrong. I took the adapter off for more pictures and then put it back on just to show people the full adapter holding a bag. A mistake that worked better for the picture at the time. I haven't used the machine since.

Rob G. I'll get rid of this machine before putting a new motor in it. The motor sounds fine. Technically this is now my aunts machine. I sold it to her for $25. I won't use this machine at all anymore. I'm much happpier with my power nozzle canisters and Hoover Convertible/ Decade 80!

Old thread I know.

I guess I must be a rebel because I've installed my F&G bags backwards before and it still worked. In fact some of the old singers had the zipper facing the handle. I've also installed Hoover C bags backwards as well but never sideways. :l

I'll add to this nacrotic thread as well.

If there is, in fact, a noticeable increase in cleaning performance with the substitution of an ST Fill tube + HEPA cloth ST bag in place of a "Premium" Allergen F&G bag, I will give one of these things a shot on my Sanitaire blue line S661.

It's mind boggling to think that the S661 could do EVEN BETTER! The cleaner is such a top-performer already...
